Ok, how would i color a balck and white picture that i scanned. i know you use the one at the mode where you change it at rgb and then add a new layer on the top with overlay mode anc color away then flatten. but is there really an easier way? MAybe a filter?;) Thanks for reading my post

Not that I am any sort of expert but I usually convert to RGB and then paint using the eyedropper tool selection from another photograph. I use a new layer for each color. It takes awhile but you can adjust the opacity of each color layer as you see fit. I haven't done many but I don't think a filter would work that well as it would pick colors for you and there would be a lack of control. Hope this helped a little....

You may want to check out this challenge (http://www.retouchpro.com/challenge/retouching/challenge12/index.html). With the old challenges, members had to say exactly how they achieved what they did, which should give you a good idea how to go about colorizing a picture.

Sorry Garfield... no filter magic. You will need to "apply color by hand."
Here's a tutorial that should get you started.
