Yet another experiment.
I thought about putting this with the other Challenges, but this is significantly different. I may change my mind if this turns out to be popular, though.
This is more recreational, more creative, and not limited to photo work.
The theme of this first Gallery Challenge is "translucency". That's it. No pictures to work from, just an idea.
When you've got your entry, start a thread with either your name or the title of your work. Attach your file to your first post (no URLs, please). I still expect painstaking and fanatical descriptions of how you did it, and this time you can also include your thoughts about where the idea came from, your creative process, etc.
As always, this Challenge doesn't expire, ever. Even when new ones are posted we still want to see your entry for this one.
This is a work in progress, so I invite comment.
Doug,
You said "not limited to photo work", then you said "no pictures to work from". Does this mean we can't use photos of our own choice?

Sorry for the muddy meaning.
Since no photos are supplied, you must work from photos you provide.
I simply meant it wasn't limited to photo repair or photo montage.

I like the word interpretation approach. This should be a lot of fun and have a wide variety of results! I can’t wait to see the submissions.

Doug: What happened with this challenge? Did it die on the vine? I see no continuation, no pics................

Well, there is one entry. I guess this one didn't catch on. Some do, most don't. Feel free to get it going again :)

Hmmm...I can't find it, Doug. I clicked on "next thread" and it said there aren't any. So where would the entry be located? For that matter, why aren't the new threads that contain folks' submissions listed when you open the challenge number in this forum? I don't know how to find them without clicking on "next thread" here.
What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

You're not doing anything wrong, just the forum software thinks it's smarter than you are. "Last thread" will actually get you there, don't ask me why.
Here's a universal and predictable way to navigate:
At the top of every forum page are "breadcrumbs" that show you where you are. For this thread they look like this "RetouchPRO Forums > Technique > Gallery > Gallery Challenges > Gallery Challenge #1 > Translucency". Each of these is a link.
Perhaps it will help to think of them as folders, each link containing the folders to the right of it. So, if you click on the "Gallery Challenge #1" link, you'll see the folder that contains the thread you're reading right now, and any others (in this case there's currently only one other).
This works everywhere in the forum. It helps if you set your "Default Thread View:" properties in your User CP options to "Show all threads".

The one entry is mine. You have to go to the Gallery Cahllenge#1 section and then make-sure you have "show threads from the beginning" selected as I believe the default is set for "show threads for the last 30 days" and I did the entry a long time ago.
To view it directly go here (http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=650)

Thanks Doug!
And Paul, I found your translucency...so creative! I love the coolness of the colors too.
And now we can add yet one more use for bubble wrap to the list!
Phyllis :)
