Guidelines? Give 'em a rest!

Since I'm going on vacation and won't be back for a week, let's give providing the detailed steps a vacation, too. As a reward for so many fine writeups so far the how-to detail will be optional for this mini-challenge.

Still, limit your submissions to no more than two (2).

PHOTO ART: Mini-challenge #147 – Freemont Bridge

Here’s another “mini-challenge” to play with in the Photo-based Art category until the next major challenge is posted here (http://www.retouchpro.com/challenge/index.html).

The base image can be downloaded by clicking the link below the legal verbiage.

From June 1976 through March 1985 I crossed this bridge that spans the Willamette River in Portland, Oregon twice a day to and from work. It took about three years to build and I recall being facinated by the construction techniques.

Before the bridge offically opened the City of Portland hosted a HUGE street party on the upper deck. It was a hoot.

I tried the soft sketch on this on. It seems to have brought out the detail under the bridge.

That's a fine photo, Danny. And some beautiful sketches. Very well done. I dug up the architect's original rendering buried in a time capsule under the bridge:

p.s. just testing my Cobblestone technique

Further testing my 10 version black and white, I combined parts of the double red and the channel mixer results using the history brush. I then added some tint from one of the standard color swatches and some film grain to the underside of the bridge.

This one looks a bit like bill M's first(but just a bit) because his is much more painterly. Mine is fully Photoshop-generated, not a shred of manual help:D .

tried some custom filters on this

Well, I simplified this one then changed into a pencil sketch on a layer and painted with painted daubs on another. I used texture and KPT noise for the background layer. I color corrected and changed it a bit with variations. Overall, I think it came out a clean painting. Cathy
