Ran across this the other day and thought it had great potential.

Let's see what you can do with this one.

This is a great photo.

I used the same steps I used in mini-challenge 98 (lighthouse), but played with the presets.

Danny:
Thanks for the image Danny. Cheryl I really liked your impressionist style. SVSG your image was really interesting I like your dark tones that you have given images. I have tried for between the two of you in style.
The following was done:
1. Nik polarizer and brilliance & warmth
2. Buzzed
3. Embossed
4. Curves
5 Texture sandstone
Thanks

svsg--nice work. I like how the mission tower looks lit from within.

Bob--the soft sandstone texture is a nice compliment to the coolness of the sky and the warm tones of the mission.

Don--great surreal effect. I like the slightly melted look of the building--it suits the old architecture (sp?).

Hi everyone,

very nice picture and one that inspires some very wild renditions.

I downloaded it because I liked it so much but couldn't get anything decent out of it till tonight.

Cheryl : your getting into a style of your own:D . I like the different colourblotches-tones very much. Just a pic that deserves this treatment.

svsg : just as I would picture this building in a glorius sunset. Nice

Bob : for whom the bell tolls!!! Lovely that light from into the tower and the dark ominous sky.

Don : Your's seems to be in front of a big explosion. The laquer always delivers hé

mine is a bit hot too:

I used a layer with colourworks-heat filter
a layer wher I selected only the building
a routine sketch layer with colorize hue saturation to make it warmer and eliminate white-fad el white /softlight
a background dupe with impressionist watercolor and PE waterpaper preset /softlight
a dupe with buzz-edges usm and eliminate white-fade /multiply
layer with texture

done

Very nice versions from everyone. I used a tutorial found here

http://home.mchsi.com/~riverbend193/galena.html

for mine. I did add a texture at the end.

I ran across the image on my hard-drive that I downloaded and made awhile ago. Guess I'll post it now, even though I don't remember what I did.

Sorry lost count of all the silly things I did with this one.
I'm having a surreal moment I think.

My God that was quick,at least its not just my mind people can worry about :clown: Peter

I'm thinking about each of the ways I can read that sentence --

"not JUST my mind people can worry about"; ;) :)

"not just MY mind people can worry about" ;)

If anyone else wants Peter to wonder about their mind, here's what I did:

diffuse glow to channel(s)
duped layer
dark strokes on top layer - faded
duped layer
ran notepaper sketch with royal blue/yellowish green - set layer to Luminosity - then inverted layer and duped it

ran Torn edges - black/white - overlay layer blend with opacity reduced to 50%
ran Extrude on top layer
ran texture Craquelure on top layer

top layer - set to Overlay (inverted notepaper sketch with Torn edges, extrude and craquelure)
2nd - set to luminosity
3rd set to normal (diffused glow)

CJ I think you should read, (or maybe you already have), "Eats, Shoots & Leaves" by Lynne Truss. Just be careful where you put the commas.

BTW it was no criticism, I liked the pic, I just forgot to say, sorry!

Going for a loose watercolor this time. Did DCSpecial's ICE4 filter, GIMP's Dilate filter and ported the result into CS2 for some Impressionist(CherylH Gouche) and Paint Engine (@Wetter2) enhancements. :)

Lyle, I REALLY like that! I don't usually care much for Impressionism, but I really like that work -- good job!

I love to work on photos of architecture.

I wanted to do a water color, but the photo was too saturated and I didn't like the sky. So I tweaked some levels, HSL, and did some bluring and stuff before sketching. Used a spatter brush at different sizes and opacity to paint back a history.

I forget now who reopened this thread (Peter?) but thanks. A really nice image.
Here's a...I dunno...sorta water color, I guess, done in Twisted Brush.

...and an oil.

The mission, by the way (in case anyone's interested) is San Xavier del Bac, outside of Tucson. My grandparents lived there (Tucson, not the mission) in the 50's, and when we visited them, they took us everywhere.

Great work, everybody.
