svsg--The subdued tones are beautiful.

It appears almost oriental looking. I like it very much. When I looked at the original picture I was blown away by the colors and couldn't imagine what could be done to change it for the better.Nice work.

Thank you. :) I've been working on putting together a collection of custom presets and some rookie (I'm the rookie) actions to go with them. I hope to have a second draft ready to share by the end of the weekend. For anyone with the impressionist plugin, I'd be happy to share. cheryl : I especially like your rendering of the sky here. This could be a genuine impressionist painting!

Mine is a sketch with aniso (twice I think) and the original layer in overlay and color on top of it + a normal layer with mask to paint some of the blue back in. I could have put one of these layers through luce or a xero filter, I don't remember.

Gina, Very different result, nice work especially the butterfly. On my version, I don't remember what I did exactly, but I played with the middle slider of Levels for all 3 colors.

Who makes the impressionist plugin?

Cropped, Paint Engine, Pattern layer.

The impressionist plugin shipped with Microsoft Image Composer. It can be found on the Front Page 98 CD. I understand that FP2000 has it as well.

If you use Corel Photopaint, there's an effect called alchemy that does virtually the same thing. It's not in .8bf (plugin) fomat.

The company that created it sells a version 2 called paint alchemy http://www.xaostools.com/products/pamain.html .
I find it harder to use than the old version 1, but it does give some nice (also different) effects. I have been using version 1 with the photoart I've been posting.

Butterfly at night (I guess).

After a lot of frustration, false starts, trial and (mostly) error I stumbled onto this unusual effect by duplicating the original image, putting it over a highly modified version of the original and changing the blend mode to Difference. After flattening the image the Lighting Effects filter was applied.

Danny, very nice. The butterflly looks like a firefly!.

All i did here is add a layer reduced it to 50 on the opacity and then added a white layer reduce that to 30 merged, added text, added another layer to the background removed the merged one and reduced the new duplicated background to 50 and there you go...

Sorry but i ran out of ideas on paintings...I won't when i get the wacom i plan to own very soon.

Woke too early this morning so had time to do this one .... terrific result Legacy!

Added a mask, canvas texture,
buttonized, added a shadow.

Well, here's my take.
-I duped the BG.
-I loaded the Blue channel as a selection and used that to create a new alpha channel.
-Used Levels to increase the contrast, and Gaussian Blurred it slightly.
-Loaded that alpha channel as a selection and ran Photoshop:Render:Clouds with the foreground color a light grey.
-inverted the selection and did the same, but faded it to lower opacity.
-Deselected and did the same, but faded to an even lower opacity.
-Did my Red, green, blue channel with Imp:Chalk Sketch:Half-Finished with the foreground color as background.
-Faded each to Darken.
-Then Did the inverse of the Red, green and blue channels with the same filter, but Faded the red and green to Overlay, and blue to darken.
Deselected and ran Imp:Sumi-e:Dry Strokes on Pitted Stone.
Faded to lower Opacity.


Oops, I forgot. Before I finished, I loaded the Red channel again and ran Imp: Ink: Detailed Color Stipple.
Faded to Pin Light and lower opacity.

...here's my take.
Very, very impressive. The texturing effect is outstanding.

Glikster, that is very dreamy and romantic. Just great for a light hazy spring morning. Ilove it.

Thanks for the compliment, Palms. When I first saw the image, it seemed to scream frosted glass to me. I duped the background, intensified the contrast with curves and used the distort/frosted glass filter. I then set the layer blend mode to soft light. To increase the effect, I duped this layer several times. For the window, I found a picture of a frosted bathroom window with a roll of toilet paper on the sill. I cut out the frosted glass and TP, and cloned the missing parts back on to the picture. I placed the butterfly in back of this and voila!

I'm glad you liked the aged photo technique. I got the idea from one of Corey Barker's videos on the NAPP web site some weeks ago.
