Done in PSP8. Several layers of effects and textures. I know, I should have written them down. :( I usually post the steps before I close the program; but, it is late and I forgot. :(

I'm posting this one because of a "happy accident" (see ##) that I believe will be useful down the road. It will be explained in a "Try Me" tutorial in a few minutes.

This version consisted of

* Lines copy (multiply)
* Lines (multiply)
* Impressionist layer consisting of settings:
. - Pencil Sketch: Colored lines
. - Pencil Sketch: Soft sketch
. - Charcoal: Default

It's not that food, in general, doesn't inspire me. I just have a hard time picturing what to do with this picture.

Anyway, here's my take on it.

Duplicate layers:
Bottom Layer: FP Organic Edges (Blur, Add)
Duplicate Bottom Layer: Paint Engine, Gaussian Blur, Darken
Adjustment Layers: Increase Saturation, Lightness
Top Layer: Electroplate, Blend Mode=Hard Light

Reminds me of a barbeque i once went to.
Mostly it is the "difference" blend with the "luminosity" blend on numerous layers that gives the image a real freaked-out effect.

This is what I do with images I don't like. Much more interesting, don't you think? PSP8 reflecting image with 3 petals, flaming pear swerve, sharpening, reduce saturation.

Sometimes it's just plain fun to apply a bunch of effects just to see what happens. Happy accidents happy sometimes!

Actually, I prefer this type of abstract work, using photos as raw material. I love the way photos make abstracts with texture, lines, colors, shapes. I love the results I get. I have a whole portfolio of artwork done this way. Doesn't really have to "look like" anything. Just please the eye. I've seen galleries where if this were done by hand, matted and framed at say 60" wide, would go for hundreds of dollars. Makes me wish I had the talent to hand paint the digital result!

I used a filter which to date I hadn't tried - Paint Shop Pro/Brustrokes/Blocky Edge on a second duped layer of the original, Luminance (L) 50%. Merged. Added some AIM/USM for more bite.

If the results are this good I'd say you should keep experimenting with other effects you haven't tried. This effect is very arty. Cezanne would be impressed! :)

It's the simpler approaches that often seem to turn out best don't you find...?
I want to try this now on larger images suitable for printing, just bought myself some nice watercolour paper to try out.

A few easy steps in ps7.
L1- Original image
L2- Dup L1, filter-brush strokes- crosshatch 10,20,1. Then filter-stylize- find edges, edit - fade find edges - luminosity blend opac100. Next, artistic- cutout 8,0,2. Next, artistic - dry brush 0,10,1.
L3- Dup L2. Usm 50,250,0. Increase saturation +25 or so.

Top Layer: Electroplate, Blend Mode=Hard Light

What is "Electroplate"? A filter? I like it a lot! (but where can I find it?)
