Probably fun Down Under, but since winter is approaching in the U.S., maybe next year! :)

I liked how this one turned out....

Layer stack (top to bottom)

E. Hue/Saturation adjustment layer - boost color saturation a bit

D. MSFT Impressionist [custom setting **], Darken, selectively applied using a layer mask.

C. MSFT Impressionist [custom setting **], Overlay, selectively applied using a layer mask.

B. The watercolor layer rendered by Mike Finn's Insta-sketch [beta] action, selectively applied using a layer mask.

A. Modified version of the original image with a lot of the shadows and a few poles removed; also zapped the no parking sign.

Danny--that's an interesting mix and the results are great. That mix of roughness in the colors and edges while retaining enough detail to keep it from being too vague is always my favorite look. 2 thumbs up. :)

This was done with several impressionist layers (tinfoil, thick paint, and fossil) blended together and topped with a find edges layer. (ink and thin watercolor non-textured)

In PSP8, removed the sign and the reflection in the water. Ran edge preserving smooth and brush strokes. In PS7 added a texture layer, resized, and saved for web.

Nice renders too. I like them both both I'm drawn more to the second-oil painting one.

I cropped and cloned the right part of the boat away.
Ran the insta-sketch and stopped at a point where I liked the effect.

Filter - Aim/USM

First of all, Danny, yours is truly inspiring, as usual.

OK. Duped BG.
Ran Imp: Pencil Sketch: Detailed Monochrome the 3 loaded (new) alpha channels and their inverted selections.
Duped BG.
left new BG copy under the first BG copy. Set top layer to Luminosity and Stamped Visible.
Set the stamped layer aside (hidden) and changed the Imp. layer back to Normal.
Moved the newest BG copy above the Imp layer.
Ran same on the first (new) loaded alpha channel and its inverted selection.
Set layer to Darken.
Ran Imp: Pencil Sketch: Detailed Colored to the first (new) loaded alpha channel and its inverted selection.
Set layer to Soft Light.
Unhid stamped layer and set blending to Lighten and Opacity to 35%.
That's it.

Orig image - applied smart blur, ocean ripple, buzz simp 1. Layer mask bevel and emboss.

Corel Painter with a mouse, then added texture in photoshop.

BuzzPro 1 - simplification
Buzzpro - mono Edges on duplicated layer - increase contrast - overlay mode
Virtual painter - watercolour - on Duplicate layer - 50% opacity
Texturised layer at about 40% opacity

Enjoyed the attempt so much I shall try more of these interpretations

Everyone has made this scene so appealing that I wanted to try it also --

mostly separations using Color Range, then added the sum of the parts without the original, ran Dry Brush on one copy, then added the original at lower opacity on Hard Light to rebuild some structure. Added a layer of Note-papered white and a colorized layer both erased away a bit to reveal the boats thru a fog.

I'm just not understanding impressionist settings, Danny. What do you mean by MSFT then followed by custom settings....?

Hi Deb:

Great question and thanks for asking. In rereading what I wrote I realized I could have made that clearer. Sorry about that...

For each of those layers I used a modified version of the Detailed Monochrome variant from the Pencil Sketch category
* In the Impressionist dialog click the "More options" button
* In the dropdown menu (top/left), choose Size (short for "brush size")
* I changed the "Number of Sizes" value from 3 to 1.
* In the box below I changed the width value to 2. It doesn't matter which of the two boxes you change.

These changes, in effect, tell Impressionist to use only 1 brush size whose width is the same throughout. Normally there are multiple brush sizes.

Keep asking if you run into other questions. I can tell you're eager to learn and I'll be glad to help whenever I can.

I duped original layer and applied (Filter) Flaming Pear's/Pixel Trash/Cross default setting.
This turned the water black so I just erased the black and parts I didn't want.
Merged both layers.
Impressionist/"Jaykita's WC A" setting which I find works really well on darker images (at least for moi...)

I haven't done any Photoshop work for a few weeks now and spent my time getting back up to my norm instead of remembering the steps I took.

I ALWAYS do adjustment layers with various masks of Selective Color, Levels, and Curves, that's for sure.

I played with Glowing Edges and Photocopy changing the layers blend modes and fading the effects.

Also, I tried some compositional cropping, which is rare for me in the forum. But, I like the result. :grin:

Glad you found your way back, Tyler. I see you haven't lost your touch.

Nothing wrong with a little creative cropping once in a while! A great crop often transforms an average image into a special one.

These images are inspiring, colorful and fun. Very energetic and great to look at. Thanks for sharing. Maybe I'll be able to join you in full mode again soon. You guys make me itch to get back in the swing of things again.
