Increased size of image. When they're too small, the end up looking like photos.

Base layer: BuzzPro Simplfier 1 - to lose a little detail

Other effects applied to layers above the base layer and selectively applied with layer masks:
* Crosshatch
* Colored Pencil
* Microsoft Impressionist - Charcoal/Default
* Microsoft Impressionist - Pencil Sketch/Detail Colored

Cheers...

Used a grain filter on a new layer then set this layer to exclusion mode.

Added a levels layer to darken the background and brighten the colours.

2. diffuse glow
3. motion blur on everything but head
4. increased saturation

Forgot what a cutie little Ashley was... :)

----------------------------

Photoshop...
* Image size to make larger (can't believe I posted such a dinky original)
* Smart blur - to smooth artifacts
* Three layers rendered by a custom Impressionist preset varying the brush size from 50 for detail to 150 and 400 for non-detail areas. Combined these layers using layer masks.
* Flattened and saved

Corel Painter X
* Cloned and use Acrylic Oils variants to "smear" the paint

Photoshop
* Sharpened
* Messed with colors
* Added some detail via layer mask from a layer rendered by Akvis sketch from the original image

Decided to revisit this one as its such a good pic.
I couldn't decide which I liked best, B&W or colour, so posted both.

I vote for the B&W. I really like your technique on this. Could you please tell me how you did it?

Thanks you guys.

First of all I was going to do a full colour version, smoothing, colour adjustment etc. Then I was checking something in one of the channels, and I thought "That looks OK in B&W but some bits were missing. I looked at the other channels and the detail was there. So I copied 2 of the channels to new layers and masked out the bits I didn't want. I then duped the background, moved it to the top of the pile and made the blend mode overlay then ran Redfields++ on it a few times and reduced the opacity quite low - this gave the textured effect. For the coloured version I moved my edited colour layer to the top and changed the blend mode to colour and lowered the opacity down a bit.
Well thats the basics of it anyway hope it helps.

Personally I don't like this photo at all and that for me is the challenge, I have sketched her and then introduced grain
