Another pic from Crete. Never been there, but this looks very nice.

Lunch, anyone?

Thought I'd experiment with BuzzPro and Microsoft Impressionist.

Attached is the final result. The next post has a snapshot of the Layers Palette.

Layer notes:

B. Use the Buzz preset Coloured Patches, but changed settings to 42 and 330.

D. I though the sand detail got wiped out a little too much, so I restored a little by copying the original background and restoring some detail via a Hide All Layer Mask.

E. Another MSFT Impressionist layer, but I changed the settings a bit to get larger, more defined strokes.

F. Selectively applied a Hue shift and Saturation boost to all areas except the sand and mountains

G. A little more boost to the tree leaves.

This is FUN!

Nice work Danny.

I thought this would look nice done up by the David Roley Hayes Cafe action. :D

Although I am overly found of anything hayes Islandish I have to say Danny, that is the closet to looking like a hand done painting i have ever seen. Great job as always.

Danny-- I love the bold colors and the way the little bits of white show through--like where paint missed the canvas.

C--Hayes Island worked well on this image.

I started with some custom impressionist presets (my ink and thin watercolor action), then deleted the find edges layer the actions creates. Put a copy of the original on top and used the bold lines action from a new set I'm working on.

Just 2 filters - Ink outlines and texture.

Thanks for your comment Cheryl. Nice watercolor look to your version.

Christine, I like the ink outline result. The texture is a little heavy for me. I guess I am a light on the texture person. :) BTW, I have found that if I go to Edit - Fade after applying texture and fiddle with the fade control I can get an in between result that is sometimes better than the texture setting. You probably already know that. Sorry, just trying to be helpful. :)

I’m trying to learn how to control Virtual Painter.

This one I used some
BuZZ Pro: Simplifier (4058) and Blur More
Smudging to Soften Edges
and Texture

I'm rather humbled by the beauty of the various renderings of this image!

I took the easy way out, rather than attempting to updo anyone. I did a VP collage with everything set to -5 except color which was -4 and focus which was +5.

Then I softened it, added a mild texture and used the PSP8 warp brush to turn the lines in the sky into gulls.

Such a beautiful, tranquil setting. But in the light of recent tragic events, one wonders if....
Anyway, here's my latest technique of using brushstrokes in ps7, coupled with vp airbrush and buzzpro.

JCH - Great result and well done.
Amy - I love this - bold and strong. Perfectly suited for this image.
Clever use of the warp tool I must say...!
Steve - Glorious result, the colours appear almost luminous!
Jaykita - Wonderful soft result - surely a "keeper" for future use.

Painter 8.1

Time: 1 hour

Cloned using Digital Water Colour/Dry Brush throughout

Blenders/New Simple Blender

Added some extra cloud using Dry Brush

Cloners/Soft Clone - used to bring back some
detail especially around tablecloth edges, chairs
and table condiments.

Dropped all layers then duplicated.
Gel mode. Lowered opacity.

Added a sandstone texture and frame in PSP8.1

I LOVE PAINTER ....absolutely the best money I ever spent.

Neve, Lovely result. You are doing wonderful things with Painter. Thanks for sharing, as it inspires me to keep trying. (I'm finding Painter a major challenge with so many variables. This especially includes pen pressure, brush speed, and direction - items that I am really struggling to control.) And thanks BTW for the compliments on my Fisherman Painter8 effort and punched copper MtnMan.

Steve, Good to see some new work from one of the grand masters. I love the vivid color and especially the texture. I hope you have time / interest to post more often.

Beautiful result Steve, I've long since admired your talent. This is bold, bright, cheerful and softly done.

Mark, Thank you, your feedback is warmly welcomed. I'm posting my newbie tentative steps with Painter for no other reason than I'd be chuffed if other newbies would join me in learning and sharing re this marvellous program. I decided not to be daunted by knowing about Painter's "steep" learning curve and just dive in there. Variables, pen pressure etc and the more in depth things will mean something in time but right now I am totally just experimenting and going "with the flow" :classic: and loving it. To think I am just barely scratching the surface is a very exciting prospect. I'm not at all adept at using the tablet and pen and have to admit to difficulty doing a straight steady line, but being able to undo solves that problem.

BTW - this image was first prepared in PSP8. I knew I wanted to brighten, lighten the colours first so I:-

Duped original layer
L2 - Photo Wizz - Luma Negative (i.e. colour negative)
Flaming Pears Tachyon does the same.
Mode - Soft Light - reduce opacity.

Cheers

Copy original image
Make Radial gradient from corner to centre to create white glow fading to blue
Make moon and place in center of glow
Play with channels to get a nice blue tone
Hue and Saturation to required tone
Select a zig zag with selection tool and fill with white (10 pix feather)
Apply ripple to simulate moon reflection
Touch up specific light cast areas

Man, I wish I was there!

Applied deep blue filter, erased back selected areas.
P.S. Filters: Other: Maximum 3 Fade Back
Erased back a few edges at low opacity
TLR sharpened: Capture: Highpass Luminosity Edges
M.F. Watercolor
M.F. Watercolor half way thru to create sketch. Levels to increase contrast.
Dragged onto first Watercolor, changed to Overlay 45%. Flattened.
Dragged flattened image onto Sharpened TLR image. Changed blend mode to Soft Light and lowered opacity.
Erased back some details like the urn.

Cheers

Wish I was there with you! :)

Nice effect you got, here.

re:

* M.F.?

I dunno what these mean. Maybe that's because it's 3 a.m., ya think?

TLR - The Lights Right. A sharpening tool kit thoughtfully provided for free from this website.

M.F. - Mike Finn. Thought you'd get that one Danny!

BTW, on another post, I unfortunatly used the short form for Filters Unlimited Version 2 that I have been using quite a bit. I hope no one was offended.

Cheers

Mike (from http://homepages.slingshot.co.nz/~mikefinn/action.html) and Mitch (from www.TheLightsRight.com) craft some great actions.

Thx for the wakeup call, and the FU V transation, too.

Playing with Danny's Imp. Settings.

First Layer used his Charcoal: Long Strokes (K)
Second layer used his Chalk: Soft Detail Pastel Rain
Third used his Marker: Detail Medium, Faded to Darken.
Then used his Paint: Dry Brush Scrappy.
Ran Custom Filter. Faded loer opacity.
And added texture, with a layer mask to simulate thicker areas of paint.
