I am trying to create a slideshow using layers in PS7.

My images are 8 bit jpeg's.

I open image 1 and it appears as a background in palette.

I open image 2, activate the move tool , click on image 2 to drag it to the palette and it appears as the background!!!

How do I keep image 1 open as a background, so I can drag image 2, to the palette.

Any help would be appreciated.

I am a little confused, but here goes ...

You don't drag an image to the other images pallette (I assume you mean layers pallette), you drag an image to another image or a layer (from the layers pallette) to another image, having both images open and in photoshop so that a portion of both images can be seen. click and drag a layer to the seen portion of the other image, hold down the shift key while you drag if you want to keep it centered. When you drag it to the other images window it will be added as a layer in the other images layers pallette automatically.

Hope this helps,
Roger

Many thanks for your reply.

I have been trying to do this for 2 days(very slow learner!!!).

I searched the net and found a tutorial for Photoshop Elements, showing the images being dragged to the layers palette and I assumed, this was how it was done in
PS7.

I am working my way through a tutorial from www.beechbrookcottage.com ,"How to make a slide show".

I have a feeling it is going to be a long learning curve for a 72y.o.

No problem,

I know exactly how you feel - for the longest time I had assumed that the setting for the clone stamp "All Layers" meant "all layers" - silly me - it really means "all visible layers". This paridyme of visibility is repeated other places in Photoshop also.

So matter what, there is always something!
