I have a 35 yr old color photo of my mother's family. The physical condition is excellent but there is a whitish cast or haze over the phot which renders it less than distinct. Is there a tutorial on the site that addresses this pblm? Thank you for you kind assistance.

Hi CascoGraFX,
Welcome to RP! :pleased:
...Is there a tutorial on the site that addresses this pblm?
I can't remember if there is a tutorial on that particular topic ..... but, if you could post the picture or part of it, I'm sure you'll get specific help....
P.S. You'll find instructions on how to attach images to your post following the link below my signature....

As Flora says, if you can post the picture, or a small section of it, here then we can see the problem you're describing and see if there's a suitable tutorial or we can give you some advice.
On old black and white photos a haze like that could be silvering (which we do have tutorials on) -- but that wouldn't apply to a 35-year-old color photo.
Most of the discussions we've had on haze relate to reducing atmospheric haze on landscape photographs. Some of the techniques discussed in these threads might work for you too: look at Blue-atmospheric haze (http://retouchpro.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7144) and Removing the haze from aerial photos (http://retouchpro.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3331). But, as I said, if we can see the specific problem you're asking about it may be easier to identify how to fix the issue.

maybe I'm missing it .... I just clicked on auto levels (image/adjustments/auto levels) and looks to me like the cast left.
auto levels works well maybe 50% of the time.. other times some of the other autos will help ... auto levels try's to correct all levels.... color, contrast etc.
hope that helps

Thank you. It must be because I'm Cajun that I always look for the more complicated solution to the problem. Thank you again. It came out great.
