Adobe has put out plugin for CS which fixes the incredibly long wait period for viewing filter effects.
I installed the plugin, and it's amazing how fast that feature works now!
Highly recommend getting it.

Good catch, thanks. I've wished for something like this.
Interesting that it can actually slow down multiprocessor computers or computers with over 1 gig of RAM (I don't qualify on either count).

Thank you Vikki for bringing that to our attention - I have been getting to the point where I would avoid the filters that used the filter gallery because of the time it took - either that or go and put the kettle on while I waited.
The difference is astounding... Can't say I noticed any slowing down of the program though.

Some users (including me) have reported on the Adobe forums that it speeds up the healing brush noticably. Apparently this was an unintended consequence of the plugin, but not one I am complaining about!

I hesitate to post this because I believe the solution to be unofficial per se, I have run it with no problem and virus checked it, with no problem.
It concerns the lack of thumbnails in Photoshop CS as opposed to previous versions and fixes the said problem.
My second concern is, I have no link to where I downloaded the fix, I know it was from a forum, but don't remember where. I implore others to look for this fix and give the link. I suppose forum Reg's would limit me to offering you a "will send privately if asked" mode.
Not sure where to post this, but seemed semi-appropriate given the thread subject, feel free to to move this if you feel necessary,
