Let's assume I have a picture taken in a studio using Butterfly lighting (basically lighting that is straight on and produces no descernible difference on the right and left side of the face). I now want to add shadow detail to the left side to produce a 2:1 lighting ratio (that is, the shadow is 1/2 the brightness of the highlight)

How is this accomplished in PS? By the numbers please.
