How frustrating is it to know what's wrong but have NO CLUE how to fix it! A friend of my husband sent home some photos for me to look at and see if I could restore them. I have done a couple restores before but nothing quite like this. The photos have an awful red cast on the photos which makes me wonder if it was in the processing or what? I checked it out on Photoshop 7 and the red chanel is totally blown out. How do I fix this? Thanks for all your suggestions!

That is some seriously nasty red there. The best thing I could pull off was to make them greyscale and then clean them up a bit.

Nothing I was very happy with unfortunately. Maybe someone else has some ideas.

Difficult but not impossible.

I did a colour selection of the colour cast (which looks a greenish colour), filled a new layer with this and inverted it. Changed layer blend mode to colour and reduced opacity. This gets rid of most of the colour cast.

Added levels and curves ajustment layers.

Changed background.

This was done very quickly as I am at work but may lead you in the right direction.

Ran levels on B and G channel, replaced R channel with G channel, colorized a few spots using a Overlay Blend layer set to 32% opacity, ran D/S on a copy of the original and set blend mode to Darken. Used a layer mask to reveal the important stuff.

Still lots to do, and this would work better on the hi-rez original, but this took 5 minutes and might give you some ideas (or at least hope).

But I am not sure how to replace the red channel. I duplicated the green channel and then when I deleted the red it changes to magenta and yellow? What am I doing wrong? :sad:
