Hi all. I'm hoping someone can help me. I just got a really nice new computer -- it's an HP with lots of harddrive (160 gig), very fast speeds, etc., with windows XP. A real step up from my 20 gig celeron with windows ME. The problem is that I installed my copy of Photoshop 7 to the new computer, and now if I use Find Edges, blend=multiply, and then reduce the layer opacity, i get these vertical lines running through the entire image. It's TERRIBLE!! I uninstalled it then reinstalled and got the same thing. This is really upsetting to me because I can't afford to have this problem. I may as well return the computer. Never had anything like this on my old computer.

Anyone have any ideas what this might be? I am really disappointed and upset, not to mention that I have some commissioned jobs coming up that I am going to need to use these functions on. (I use these functions every day!!) :bawling:

well, it gets worse. turns out I get the vertical lines whenever I use the multiply blend mode and then reduce the opacity of the multiplied layer, regardless of what filter i used on that layer...

i noticed that after I installed photoshop the first time, i got an error msg that flashed on the screen and then was gone. all i could see was that it said something about windows NT, but i'm not sure what it was. it also said something about sending the error report to microsoft so they could be made aware of the problem.

don't know what NT has to do with any of this... the new operating system I have is XP.

Sigh. Why does everything have to be so complicated??

I don't know what's causing your problem, but XP is built on an NT kernel (i.e. it's basically NT with some additional developments).

Just a thought..you might want to make sure you have the latest XP driver for your video card. HP's web site should have any updated drivers.

When I bought my new video card, the driver software it came with was two versions old.

Did you reset the preferences? While loading PS hold down shift,control,and alt.You have to be fast.This solves a lot of PS quirks.

Hi again. Just thought I'd follow up on this, in case anyone else finds themselves in the same predicament. Seems I got the situation worked out. :bigthmb: XP has a function that allows you to change your software compatibility settings in the event that the software worked on an earlier version of windows but does work correctly on XP. All I had to do was right-click on the photoshop icon on my desk top, select properties, then compatibility, and I set the compatibility to windows 98/ME. It's working perfectly fine now. WHEW!!!!
