Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong,please?

When I click on the print button at the top of a tutorial, I get another page to open with the Tutorial complete. If I go directly to print, I get the text and some nice boxes with red X in them. If I goto print preview I get a picture of the nice box with its X.

Also if I copy the tutorial to a word doc I get the same.

I much prefer to print and read while I do these tutorials but without the screen shots something is lost- like any chance of me understanding them.

Works fine for me. Check out the "Red-X" link on the main site page for hints on what may be going on.

I'm not sure how the tutorial forum software works, but perhaps if you are running pop-up blocker software as well as firewalls you may have to adjust their settings to prevent the red X's.

Not really sure what the problem is but here is a workaround that I managed for Bonnie.

Assuming you are using a PC and IE6.

Add the tutorial page to you favorites folder and click the make available off line box.

Come off line and then open the page from the favorites. Print as normal.

This ensures the graphics are downloaded to your computer.

It used to happen to me also, but I discovered that this site requires "referrers" to be allowed in my firewall, else I get all red x's.

I just blocked referrers to confirm and... yup, I saw red x's again.

Yep, almost a third of our bandwidth was being stolen by deep-linkers (and bandwidth is the most expensive aspect of web hosting). I solved it by requiring the referrer header to view images.

I allowed refferers in my ad blocker-even though its turned off.
I turned off the pop-up blocker.
I Cant find any reference to referer headers in IE6.
I don't have a firewall except the one my ISP has.

I see everything fine on the moniter. I just can't print any images from retouchPRO. Not even the gray scale at the bottom of the red X page.

I think its time to dump this disk and reload a new one from scratch anyway. Time to change from 2000 to XP anyhow just didn't want to waste the summer working on a puter. OH well the rains will be back soon anyway.

No but I printed it out and stuck it to the wall so I could. Lord only knows what I've loaded or unloaded in the couple years this drive has been up.

CAUSE
This problem occurs most often with inserted bitmap (.bmp) files or pasted graphics. Note, however, that this behavior may also occur with other graphics formats.

Word uses either a red "X" or a general picture (a circle, square, and triangle) to represent any graphic or picture it cannot display. Word will not be able to display corrupted or damaged graphics or may lose picture data in low memory or low resource situations.

RESOLUTION
In most cases, you can resolve this problem by upgrading to Microsoft Word Service Release 1 (SR-1).

Verify that Show Pictures has not been turned off in Internet Explorer:
On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
Click the Advanced tab, and then verify that the Show Pictures check box is selected under Multimedia.

Make sure scripting, ActiveX controls, cookies, and Java applets are enabled in Internet Explorer. To do so, follow these steps:
On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
Click the Security tab, and then click Default Level (if it is available) for the zone which contains the Web page (for example, Internet).

If you are using Internet Explorer 6, click the Privacy tab, and then click Default (if it is available).

Try reinstalling Java (http://java.com/en/index.jsp) on your computer and IE again.

Robert -- Another suggestion: navigate to the tutorial page, then do (assuming you're using IE) File -> Save As -> Web archive, single file (*.mht) and save to your local machine. Then close down IE, navigate to the .mht file you just created and double-click on it to open it. Then try printing that.
