Lots of experimenting on this one, so I only recall vaguely what was done.

1. duplicate and create a sketch layer (I'm pretty sure I settled on xero line art)
2. increase brightness and contrast then select black
3. invert selection and paint lightly with history brush
4. impressionist (streaky?)
5. increase saturation
6. select inverse--VP oil
7. duplicated a few times and played around with impressionist and adjustment layers in different blending modes
8. added a glaze layer.

somewhere during step 7 I merged visible and ran lucis exposure and blended it in as well.

Nice pic! I did xero lineart and xero abstractor and fiddled with brightness and saturation. Buxx in there somewhere, too.

Nice work, Cheryl ! Amy, I think your treatment works very well - like it a lot.

I went for enhancement of the colors and abstracting of the figures via silhouetting. Probably lost some of the steps along the way. I started by multiplying two duped layers, I added another layer copy and used Ink Outlines to abstract. Also tried Sketch->Stamp along the way, but don't remember if I ended up using that version. I duped layers and used Overlay and Screen Blending modes with layer masks to brighten areas in mid section. Also used Blur-Zoom on a layer mask to give some direction to the radiant light.

Cheryl H - Super colours and lovely final effect. Amy - Very nice effort, good clean lines. CJ - Lovely all around effect! This is my first foray using Impressionist - what a useful, versatile and surprise package it is!

Fiddled with Brightness/Contrast and Hue/Saturation on original.
Dupe Bottom Layer
Layer 2 - Photo Wizz/Luma Negative. Apply UDF "find edges."
Dupe Layer 2 - on layer 3 - Photo Wizz/Luma Neg again.
Merge top two layers. Dupe this layer. Blend Mode - Multiply.
Merge top two layers.

On Layer 2 - Buzz Simplifier/Stack one/Dark 9 (to soften the outlines)
Layer blend mode - Dodge - Negative - 70%
Merge both layers.

Dupe bottom layer
Layer 2 - Impressionist/Watercolour/Damp Transluscent
Layer Blend mode - Normal - 50% - dupe this layer
Layer 3 - Mode - Multiply - 20%
Merge all layers.

Fiddled with Hue/Sat again.

Applied a mask and sandstone texture.

Neve, lovely light/bright and airy look. I love the use of an effect named "Damp Transluscent" on a beach scene! :)

That came out great Neve. I like how you were able to bring out the color in the dog and the soft colors overall.

Can you provide more info on Photo Wizz?

Someone else just asked me the same question yesterday. It's a terrific set of free filters which I use frequently. The Luma Negative retains the colour unlike normal negative. Flaming Pear's Tachyon filter does the same.

If you want to try something with Luma Neg right away try this for an interesting colour effect on your images....

Dupe original layer
2nd layer - PhotoWiz/Luma Negative - default setting
Layer blend mode - Soft Light.

This will provide you with a interesting/bright colours base for photo art.

kiska -- love the texture on this, as well as the dark mood while keeping the color!

This image really lends itself to a number of different "looks" -- whether glowing with light or moody and dark.
