Here's my 1st try on this image

This is yet another try using the Impressionist Filter.

Basically, what I do is create a duplicate layer and apply the filter to this new layer. Then I erase the filtered layer (only around the edges of the subject), bringing out the detail. The two layers are then merged. Deleting only the edge still leaves enough of the filtered layer to give the elusion of brush strokes. Next, I create a new layer, set the blending mode to Color Dodge and then apply a rough brush with the color of say blue or red, depending on the subject color. The layers are then merged together and texturize. I always have to texturize. I can't seem to stop. I must be addicted.

Steve, you always amaze!

I wanted to keep the dark tone of the pic. I combined impressionist (Paint antique smudges) with VP oil and played around with the saturation.

I liked the image so much I did a second version. This one is an average of the original and PSP8 topography, then the whole thing gets run through PSP8's rough leather texture #1 on purple-blue and sharpened a lot.

I love seeing the diverse results as well the interesting steps taken to achieve them. They're all good enough to hang...!

PSP8.01

I extracted most of it from it's bg and placed into another larger canvas but had to reinstate slight shadows using the darken tool. Not a lot was required.
Altered the Hue/Sat to suit. Duped bottom layer - 2nd layer - applied
Artistic Brushstroke and erased some parts I didn't like. Merged and
applied a texture.

At last an image I like from my beginnings with Impress.

Used Fossil texture with 3D Metallic
finished with Photoshop cracuelure

Also some blend changes. Difference and overlay if I remember...hmmmm

Wonderful takes on this image!

I especially like Manjumena's -- very different look; I like the textures!
I especially like Reg's -- texture really adds to the image, while keeping a hint of the glass.

These are all great. I don't think I could pick a favorite although I think Reg wins on most unique (great look).

I did my latest usual thing:

1. convert to cymk and duplicate black channel
2. convert back to rgb then made 3 duplicate layers
3. Loaded black channel as a selection.
4. ran a different impressionist filter on each layer (stamp--dry rag, paint--antique smudges, ch nontextured--tinfoil 1d).
5. played with layer order, blending mode and opacity until happy then merged to a new layer.
6. reselected and inverted selection then vp oil
7. canvas glaze using 2 colors from the image
8. played around with adjustment layers to modify tone slightly.

Ooooooh!!!! Kiska -- late afternoon sun kissing them!!! The surface you added to the clear glass is especially wonderful, and the blue/gold containers have texture AND the sunlight --- lovely!

Cheryl -- lovely artistic rendition!

Thanks C. J. I'd never have thought I'd enjoy still life until Danny got me started on them. Now I love playing with good ones (meaning someone else's photo). They can take such a variety of treatments and still look great--as the posts in this thread show (IMHO).

Thanks Cheryl. Good fun altering photos, but I get so many awful renderings until I find one I like. Must try harder!

All the submissions have been great...

I've always been fascinated by the ways glass reflects, distorts, and refracts. I've seen fantastic airbrush artwork of glass shelves loaded with glassware.

I saw this mini challenge as an excuse to play around with this.

Steps:
Dupe= layer 1
Dupe layer 2 [filter>film grain] sorry can't remember settings but mode set to color burn
Masked out glass bottle
Copied and pasted to new layer/ mode: luminosity
Adj layer: Hue, saturation/ colorize, Hue 31, Sat 48, Lightness -7

For the first image layer 1 is hidden
For second image layer 1 is turned on

Of course there was a lot of experimeting along the way.

Cheers... Kent

All I did here was:
1. Make a B&W sketch which causes the background colors to look and feel the way they do.
2. Placed a copy of the color image above it and set the opacity a little
3. Then used a sandstone texture.
Thanks
Danny

Kudos to everyone for some really nice art work!

Here's mine:
1. Photoshop equalize
2. Nik Solarization Color Filter
3. Curves Adjustment
4. Texturizer to add art paper texture

Too many to comment on. All of you have done beautiful work, but here are a few that caught my eye:

Manjumena,
Yours has a warped drive feel to it, but is very arty. I like it!

Trimoon,
Very nice! It has a very soft still life feel that is ready to be framed!

Reg,
A fun abstract collage!

Kiska,
Love the embossed look. Yours is very rich and metallic and has a wonderful glow to it.

Well I did a glass filter, spotlight, impressionist paint smudge with sepia tone.
On the second I increased the red for a different look.
