Hi all,
I've been restoring photos for some time now. I'm still trying to perfect my techniques. I removed the scratches, stain, dust manually. I also corrected the color.

I'm not sure if I can sharpen the photo without loosing too much quality. Oriliginal photo was only 3x4 and I need to print it at 5x7 and 8x10. I scanned it at high res, but still.... any suggestions on sharpening the photo?

Regards,

Welcome aboard! This is a little oversharpened, but you'll get the idea. I changed the image to LAB, then targeted the lightness channel to use USM on. The settings I used were radius 1.3, amount 150, threshold 0. Changed the image back to RGB. You can watch the sharpening as you set the USM, then choose the setting that you want.

Try the High Pass- Soft Light approach, it should not introduce too much extra noise into what is already quite a noisy picture.
