I have a photo as a background layer and I am adding perfect black lines (e.g. using the Photoshop line tool) to a transparent layer.

How can I change the perfect lines on the transparent layer to make them look hand drawn?

I would appreciate any suggestion.

If you want to remain as close as possible to the real hand drawn look .... why not really draw the lines by hand with the brush or pen Tools? :wink:

What do you mean by "hand drawn"? Are they meant to look architectural, with a ruler or free form?

Here is an image I played with. The line were made with the pencil tool using a tablet and stylus. Size of stroke was set to pressure with a maximum of 3 px. Some were constrained while some were just "drawn"

Then I went into the liquify filter and played around. Finally I blurred them a bit.

I suppose it depends on just what effect you are looking to achieve.

Hi everybody,

The question is architectural - I am trying to help an architect to do “city retouching”.

The photo in the background layer is of a street and the drawing is of a suggested new building and is produced in a CAD program. The drawing is imported (as a rasterized PDF) into Photoshop. The objective is to give the drawing a hand drawn look.

Please give me a hint if this type of "help request" is outside of the scope of RetouchePRO.

...depends on the lines you want.
IF you want something to look like pencil (or ink) shading done by hand you can try this.
On a new white layer put in some noise. Do a motion blur in the direction you want the lines (maybe a levels / threshold if you want ink) and set the blending mode to multiply or darken.
Don't know if this is what you want, but it's fun :cool: to play with the settings to make "pseudo-" lines.

i have once seen somewhere plug-in for autocad that does something like hand-drawn rendering... but even if you'd kick me, i wouldn't remember where it was, or who wrote it... sorry...

Flora, I mislead you in my first post. I will try your suggestions.

JustChecking, a plug-in to the CAD-program is probably the most effective solution.
I found a few just using Google. E.g. Squiggle from SignatureCAD
