This is a picture of Bodiam Castle in Kent, although it looks from the outside as if it is complete it is in fact just a shell as the entire interior, which was wooden, was destroyed by fire.

My second submission..and my first attempt with this...bit dramatic but that is how a castle should be lol

I played around for ages but I used the chalkaholic I think then combined two layers, played with the colours and then flattened and buzzed. The I used Impressionist filter translucent damp brush and then selected the sky to make more dramatic with adjustment layers.. Probably lots more but so many I can't remember..just get carried away.

Love the sky Ann - very appropriate.

Here's mine

Overlaid image with a blurred fractal image in colour mode.

Merged the 2 layers to a new layer.

Ran chalkaholic, blurred slightly.

Duplicated original and ran Xero line art - moved layer to top and changed mode to multiply.

Rough painted white over edges.

Kiska: Uh huh, you went crazy...but it all works and is a great abstract.

Ann: Love the rendition. It looks dark and moody. Just like I picture those old castles to be in my mind's eye.

Xaran: Good post. And good rendition. Much lighter and more free than the others. Reminds me of castles in a child's book of stories.

I tried to turn it to night that is the moon in the left side(?) and the rest was done using Nike Filters Solarization color (1,57%,54%) for castle, water (3,65%,64%) and there fog filter. Then touchups.
Thank you for the nice castle.

Bob...

Love the look of the castle at night. The lighting is subtle but effective. Very romantic looking.

Thank you for the photo Xaran, a nice one to work with...!

Ann - I like the way you get carried away LOL - great result.
Christine - Very good effect, nice outlines and colourising.
Kiska - So you did but it's fun!
Bob - You got a great result no bother at all.

I started with duping the original layer (after making auto col etc changes)
Applied PSP8.01 chrome effect then embossed it.
Duped again and added 2/3 lighting effects. Merged layers.
Decided to select the sky next (new layer) and added a gradient(layer mode - colour) Merged again and added some wee sparkly stars.

Cheers

Done in photobrush. Auto stroke, filter blur light haze, and emboss. Simple, really!

I like the Sir Lancelot look. You did great on the shadow of the knight on the bridge, alot of people forget that detail or just smudge it, but yours looks so real with the light between the legs and the lighter shadow toward the back of the horse, it looks really good.
Have a nice week.

Thanks to everyone who's had a go at this - really great interpretations, I specially like the night effects, and the knight effect.

I have some other shots of this castle I'll post later.

Christine:

See what you did? (You started something TERRIFIC.) Thanks for starting this one. These are some inspiring interpretations.

= = = = = =

Mine:
* Dupicated the Background and desaturated the duplicate (Ctrl + shift + U)
* Duplicated desaturated layer twice (3 desaturaged copies of the Background)
* Top one: Smart Blur/Edge Only, Ctrl + I to get black lines on white. Changed blend mode to Darken. Darken will negate the white, but not affect the black lines.
* Top: Added Hide All (black) Layer Mask (Layer > Add Layer Mask > Hide all)
* Middle: Impressionist plugin - Pencil Sketch > Detailed Monochrome
* Middle: Added Hide All (black) Layer Mask
* Bottom: Impressionist plugin - Conte > Unsmudged Monochrome
* Middle: Clicked Layer Mask thumbnail (to make the LM active) and airbrushed with white to reveal pencil strokes from this layer.
* Top: Clicked Layer Mask thumbnail (to make the LM active) and airbrushed with white to reveal some of the detail lines from the Smart Blur / Edges Only effect.

Wonderful job on that Danny....the first thing it reminded me of was the similarity to my grandsons attempts at colouring in.

Ok in photoshop...I added median blur till it looked painted, then i went into curves and changed the whole colouring, then again in blur, until i got this effect...

I only wish i made an action cos i like this look.

I spent a lot of time on this one, results maybe don't reflect this, but I guess it's good enough to share at least from a learning perspective.

Elements2: Image>Transform>Perspective to straighten the architecture. Many masked curve layers to get some decent color and contrast. Then...

Painter8: Cloning using various brushes from the Acrylics category. Worked from background to foreground, large areas to details as per "proper" painting technique. I added some hand painted shadowing to the clouds to try and give them some life. The ThickAcrylicFlat10 brush provide the 'thick paint' texture to the castle. This brush makes great mountains from scratch (per a tutorial I've been playing with), but maybe isn't that good a cloner. Also, it left little 'pin-holes' that I had to fix back in Elements.

Thank you Neve i love castles don't you?

Mark as all good artists you add doubt, but its not needed that is lovely, i can imagine you sitting at the easel with your paints next to you taking in the sunshine doing the painting...

Thank you so much for sharing this picture!

I love everyone's work! And I am SO jealous of the painted looking ones! Jaykita, I seriously think if I were to touch my computer screen I could FEEL it!

Here is my go at it. No paint treatments, just mood-ifying the image. lol

I wasnt exactly sure where I wanted to go at first, so I just played. Ended up making some selective adjustments to the sky and castle with curves and levels, colorized for the sepia, and added a black to clear gradient at the top and bottom set to overlay.
