I know of a few ways to reduce the damage, but thought someone here might have a better way.

Had a quick playabout with your image. Ran it through noise filter, cloned out larger blemishes, adjusted levels, and equalised tone a little. Still needs work, but gives you a direction to go in. Hope this helps.

I had a go at your picture and, after rotating/cropping the image, I did the following:

I duplicated the Background Layer.
Loosely selected the spottiest areas of the picture and working on Red and Green Channels, I run the D&S and Gaussian Blur Filters to minimize the 'spots'.
Used the 'Set Grey Point' of the Curves dialog box on a light point around the dog's nose to correct the colour.
Merged Visible. (here (http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/showpost.php?p=67894&postcount=18) is how to do it without losing the underlying Layers).
I used the curves again to balance mid-tones, shadows and highlights.
I used 'Selective Colors' to further correct the colours.
Merged Visible.
I run Neat Image to minimize the noise.
Finally, I used USM to enhance the contrast a bit and to sharpen the image.

Just downloaded Neat Image, so have to get used to it yet. I've been using another noise filter up till now. Its not as versatile as NI, so I used the link you'd posted on another thread, thanks for that also.

Your own effort is of course up to the usual high standard we've all come to expect.
