Can you tell I like trains? :) ~Danny~ SWEngineer 01-15-2005, 01:55 PM Not sure why this one sat for so long. I think it has great possibilities. Image1: Copy BG. Bandpass (6 to 1.5 ??). GlowingEdges. Layer set to Exclusion, 85%. MergeVis (BG, and altered copy). SmudgeStick the merged layer. Image 2: Start with Image1 as a base. Copy Image1. Select foreground and background colors from the Image1 (gray-blue and dark rusty red). Invert th copy & set this layer Darken mode. Run Chalk & Charcoal on both layers. Masked sky and steam clouds in topy layer. Merge visible (image1 and its inversion Did some cloning around the smokestack. Created a new sky using a couple passes of Reticulation, Invert and Chalk&Charcoal on a copy of the flat sky in the merged layer. Lowered opacitity of the new sky layer. Cropped to alter composition. Resized for posting. -Mark Neve 01-15-2005, 08:13 PM Had a go again in Painter, this was more difficult due to more detail required. Time: Approx. 1 hour. PSP8.1 Duped bottom layer L2 – Flaming Pear/Tachyon Filter Mode – Soft Light 100% Merged Both layers. Selected bg and filled with blue. (fg colour blue – bg white) Mura Meister/Cloud Filter Paintbrush/Marble to add some green To the trees. Painter 8.1 New Layer – filled with white. Transparency ticked. Oils/Fine Feathering Oils 30 All over photo following contours throughout. Blenders/Soft Blender Stump 20 Over the sky. Blenders/Smear – Over front carriage Blenders/Grainy Blender 30 – On engine, tracks, wheels. (Note: I did not like the result of this graininess and later softened) Soft Airbrush to add more mist as some had Disappeared. Duplicated tracing layer – Gel Mode. Reduced opacity. PSP8.1 Softened image(i.e. pixels from Grainy Blender 30 Brush used above) Mask and canvas texture added. JustChecking 01-16-2005, 12:31 PM Mark - that sketch turned out just great. Neve - very nice and subtle, great work. --- basically just Paint Engine and Impressionist as pin light over it, and Little Ink Pot's Chalkaholic for overlay... Neve 01-16-2005, 05:29 PM JC - I really like this, can you recall your setting in PE? Con Looymans 01-17-2005, 05:10 AM Hi Danny, Here's my attempt at steam train imaging, and here's what I did: I cut out the sky and replaced it with some "Lightning" I created a neutral gray Layer above the train and used that to modify the image. I lightened and darkened in various places. I gave a bit of a color cast to the top of the train and faded the tracks in the foreground. I created a transparent layer below the train Layer and ran up and down it a few times with a couple of colors to help seperate the train from the background. Hope you like it. Axleuk 01-17-2005, 08:01 AM Another Oil Painting Rendition: Painter 9: Clone / Wet Oil Brush 10 Basically using the original image as a trace, following the trains natural curves and, but this time keeping the brush size the same throughout the exercise. I tried to fade the train a little bit in the distance Free painted the clouds in for added atmosphere Imported into Photoshop for Curves adjustments Compression not so good for this image so a copy is available on my Pbase Gallery ( see my signature below ) DannyRaphael 01-17-2005, 09:10 AM I cut out the sky and replaced it with some "Lightning."In doing so, have you created an "electric train"? Bad joke... Very nice results, Con. :) = = = = = = = = = Axle: This is very impressive work. About how long did it take to "paint." Axleuk 01-17-2005, 09:46 AM Axle: This is very impressive work. About how long did it take to "paint." Danny - The whole process probably took me about 45 mins, but just to clarify, the word 'paint' puts the fear of god in me, as we know Painter takes the fear out of the word, but the image was cloned. i used the word 'trace' which may have come across as misleading. Duv 01-17-2005, 02:40 PM Just somethin' about trains.. My Boyfriend lives in west yorkshire and one day around july last year we went out for a drive and saw this steam engine in a very olde worlde station so we stopped for a look and within minutes the station was full of tourist type weirdo's yes i say weirdos, they were getting so excited, seems that this engine was on its very last day of service and these people had paid alot of money to travel on this train... Well i never seen so many anoraks in all my life... So thanks for the memories guys...Lol Also Axle love the atmosphere theme... Duv love that olde type picture... Infact theyre all superbly done!!! Neve 01-17-2005, 05:15 PM Con, Axle and Duv - Terrific results. Nice job on your "painterly" tracing Axle  Legacy - I have a lot of happy memories from childhood and living near Waverly Station in Edinburgh, both from watching steam trains daily and enjoying trips across the Forth Railway Bridge to Fife. They brought the "Flying Scotsman Engine" Down Under 20 years ago? and we excitedly took off as a family to view it and board. With our anoraks on :lmao: JustChecking 01-18-2005, 01:02 PM JC - I really like this, can you recall your setting in PE? thanks neve  ... i'm not that sure about the PE now, sorry, but if i rem, i used both push and pull cca 0.7, no "lighten", type-uphill, length cca 10, "curl and angles" cca 20deg.. also not sure now, but i think i used G as direction channel... see attachment for layers palette... unfortunately didn't note the PE settings :( --- Duv and Axleuk - lovely results  :wavey: Neve 01-18-2005, 03:16 PM Thanks for the details JC - I was interested in it to use as part of another tutorial that I'm keen to complete but stumped in one regard. When I saw your posting, it looked similar to what I needed. Haven't used PE in ages, so will experiment today. |
