I was about to download the 8.1 upgrade and I am wondering if I need to replace the recovery files after I reinstall the program and the update... But then, I also don't remember how capture the recovery files either... DOH! Any help would be appreciated.

Hey, James...

Glad to see you make your first post.

I dunno about the recovery files, but just to make sure we're talking apples and apples here according to the Corel tech docs:
* You must first uninstall P8
* Then reinstall P8 without starting it
* And then apply the 8.1 update

Is that what you're saying? It's the weirdest thing I've ever had to do, but according the fine print that's the way to do it.

Welcome aboard.

~Danny~

Painter8.rsr
PAINTER.SET
Painter.ssd

Those are the three files. My question is: Do I need to create those files again after the reinstallation?

FWIW I did not recreate any of these, perhaps out of ignorance. After installing the upgrade, I brought up P8.1 without incident.

Just checked. All are present. Painter must have created them (or they were installed during the update).

I wanted to know this info before installing. I was told to separate those three files into a folder not connected to Painter so if there is a problem these files will help recover the program. I just want to know BEFORE I UPGRADE whether I will need to recreate these files after the update has been installed.
