If you have never visited San Francisco, it is a wonderful city. Cable cars are among the most popular tourist attractions.

All aboard?

Too bad the guy on the far right got cutoff. Oh well...

See Layers Palette screenshot for the how-to progression. Note: on Layer C. If you don't have the Virtual Painter plugin, you can get very similar results from Paint Engine's Mass Poster setting. (www.FantasticMachines.com)

I created a pattern from Layer G and used the Wow watercolor method on layers H, I. (E-mail me if you did not get the Wow sample tutorial and brushes download before the site was changed.

20-20 hindsight. Wish I would have smudged or blurred the edges a bit for more of a wet ink effect.

I'm glad you didn't smudge the edges. I like them exactly where they are. What a wonderful rendition.

Cloned out the building and signage above cable car.
Selected sky and filled in with a new one adding some cloud.
PSP/Brushstrokes/Brush Emboss 1
Duped this layer
L2 - Glowing Edges/Blend Mode Dodge 20
Merged all.

I really like this technique, Neve. My only quibble would be cloning out the Ghiradelli sign - after living in the Bay Area for over 25 years, and spending a lot of time at Fisherman's Wharf, well, the sign is really part of the scene . . . it just doesn't look right without it!

I did my own version of the cable car. Lots of layers, with different blend modes, using the original image and a PSP 9 charcoal script version.

Patricia, you're quite right to mention that familiar sign that I removed .... I lived next door to the Edinburgh Castle for the same amount of time and I'd react just the same if that was removed....! I didn't have time to spend on this one and wanted to select the sky quickly to change it hence the hasty decision to remove the sign. Keep up the good work, that's a terrific result.
