Gorgeous rose indeed! Seems such a pity to tamper with it!

I know what you mean. My wife frequently asks, "Why do you mess with such pretty pictures." An now, before I can answer, she answers her own question: "I know, I know. Because you can." :)

On mine I extended the canvas a couple inches to the right and filled it with black. Then I started doing a little experimenting with an action I'm tinkering with to create random squares that can be colored or not... It's not quite the look I was going for, but I'm learning a lot about how to create random elements.

The flower was manipulated using Photoshop's dry brush and two Impressionist settings: Charcoal > Default (followed by Edit > Fade 50%) and the Oil #24 custom preset.

The Little Ink Pot has created yet another marvel -- "The Sketcher Plug-in" found at "http://www.littleinkpot.co.uk/"
First i painted in the additional parts of the rose, including stem and leaf using the clone tool/ cut and paste (shown below)
Then, using the Sketcher plugin, produced my next image and colorized it. But to my horror, i discovered the trial version comes with visual artifacts to the processed image, all of which i painstakingly eradicated!! (next image as shown below).
The pencil sketch rendering is used in a layer with the colour photo to produce a colour pencil sketch. (Final image)

Love roses!

Hard to improve on natural perfection. I just buzzed and sharpened it a lot.

:bigthmb: Wet Oil Clone Brush? must check and see if I have that with Painter 8. Very smooth result, works well on this image Axle. Do you enjoy Painter?

What i like most about Painter is the fact that you can take an image and and have so much fun and feel like you have actually recreated something.

There is so much to learn, but i have picked the Wet Oil Clone Brush as that starting point as is gives good results very quickly, and of course is very enjoyable.

This is one of many times I don't smell like a rose..

Duped background twice.
First dupe: Invert: Luminosity 100% . Moved slightly to off register.
Second dupe: Overlay 60%

Ran pOpArTisT old version
Ran pOpArTisT adjustment to it's default. No further adjustments.

Here's one that's just a wee bit different. I thought part of the rose looked like a head scarf, hence..

Axle, i like your wet oil cloning. Very much like a real oil painting! Here's a huge :bigthmb: for Corel Painter! I love it too.
Dave, your 2nd image does look like the rose was made from a peice of silk fabric. Very Nice!

Duv, even if you don't smell like a rose, your image sure does! This turned on great. Keep 'em coming.

Thanks Jaykita and Mark! You didn't mention it but I assume you noticed the face in the rose.

Hi Danny,

Here's my quick attempt at this rose.

I just went over it a few times with the Clouds filter and the Gradient tool.

Hope you like it.

Here's another Painter8 experiment / mess that turned out ok thanks to layer blending modes.

Fun w/ Sumi-e: Most of the brushes in this P8 category seem pretty tricky to work with. Making things worse, I was hand painting (not a pretty sight, but at least still in tracing paper mode) vs cloning. I ended up with 2 very different results using mostly Sumi-eCourseDryBrush20 on one image and Sumi-eDryInk on the other. Neither was particularly appealing, but just to try, I pulled both into Elements2 and got a reasonalbe result with the DryInk layer in SoftLight mode (100%) above the CourseDryBrush layer. Added a new background with Clouds, a couple runs of DiffClouds, AddNoise, & ColoredPencil.
