My mother asked me if I could "fix" this picture. She doesn't know which photo shop originally took the picture, and there isn't a name stamped on either the front or the back, so there isn't much hope of printing a duplicate from the original negative. The picture was stuck to the glass and could not be peeled off without destroying the picture further. So I scanned the whole thing in (5x7) and started working with Photoshop. I did have a 1.25x1 inch photo to help reconstruct the right half of the image where most of the water damage is. But the photo paper has so much texture and that image was so small that it didn't do much more than get me closer to the original colors.

Anyway, let me know what you think and if you have any bright ideas on how to make this sort of work go faster, please let me know.

PS Yes, it's a picture of me many years ago.

First off, EXCELLENT JOB. That is very good. I only have two little quibbles... One is that it is just a little oversaturated (hue and saturation <0,-8,0> fixed that). I also added a second layer, filled it with 50% gray, added a 50% gausian monochromatic blur, blended it with overlay and reduced the opacity to 4%.

I fall into the trap of overdoing it a little all the time. I usually revisit everything after a day or two and tweak it a little.

Again, a very impressive restore.

Hi Chris, Using an LCD monitor, calibrated as much as you ever can calibrate an LCD. Have painted in blue to background, as it seemed to be there, so I just evened it out across the whole pic. This may be what is throwing you. Will try boosting colour to boy, see what that looks like. OK, selected boy, and blended to Multiply, also adjusted levels and saturation. Hows it look on your monitor now.

Hi Chris, agree with you totally about the superiority of CRTs, however, I'm on a laptop as I'm severely constrained in the space available to me, so unfortunately a TFT screen is what I'm stuck with. Thanks for your comments.
