I use a PC to view the web, but lately I have been viewing the forum from my sister's MAC laptop and noticed that it looks a bit different. Furthermore, some options that I was used to when viewing it on my PC are now missing. So I thought I see if there were any other MAC oddities.

I've attached a screen capture of the first page when I select forums. On my PC I would get an option to view posts from the last 24 hours, but now my only option seems to be to select NEW POSTS.

So first, could a PC user attach a screen shot of their view of the site once they select forums.

Second, I am wondering if there are any other quirks out there. So MAC users if you are experiencing any problems or wish the site had a certain function, don't forget to ask. We want the site to be as user friendly as possible.

That's how I am used to seeing the forum. I really miss the quick links option as well as the pull down options under RetouchPro for quickly linking to the various forums. It makes it much easier to navigate the web site. I must admit I am curious why the views are so different between the MAC and PC.

It looks like you're not getting any of the javascript functions. Is javascript turned on? Which browser is that, have you tried Firefox?

I have a mac os 10.3.5. Below are screen shots for Explorer and Safari.

I didn't see anything on javascript in the explorer preferences, but "scripting" is enabled.

This helpful information comes from the support forum for this forum software:

"MSIE 5.2 for mac does not have proper support for most of the vBulletin 3 options"

Translation: our software uses some DHTML features that did not exist when IE5.2 was released, so it doesn't know how to handle them. I believe IE for Mac has been abandoned, so you might want to use Safari or Firefox.

Well luckily I will be back on my PC next week, but it might be useful information to post on the intro screen to help other MAC users.

If they need a "please use a browser written in this century" sign, they have larger problems :)

First of all it's "Mac" not "MAC" - MAC means something altogether different.

Mac users rarely use IE - at one time it was a good browser, but after Safari came out, Microsoft quit updating it and now doesn't support it at all and it hasn't been updated for years. Safari is Apple's own browser and comes with the OS.

Safari does a pretty good job of rendering web pages properly and all the quick links etc are available on RetouchPRO.

Thanks for the alert though. If we only ever use the one platform, we might never know what we're missing.

Margaret, forgive the error...it was my first time using a "Mac" (smile)

I'll let me sister know that she should switch to Safari. All is all it wasn't too hard to adjust to the Mac. The fun thing was it was also on a laptop, and I had never really worked on a laptop either; so I got to learn all kinds of new things.

You're forgiven T, it's a mistake lots of people make :pleased:

I've found Safari to be the best browser for the Mac, with Firefox coming in a close second. I usually keep IE installed for those rare occasions when I come across a web site that won't render in Safari or Firefox.

I've used a Mac laptop for about 3 years now and can't imagine going back to a desktop. I even bought a Windows laptop for some other work I'm doing! It's so easy to work when you're laying back in the recliner with your feet up - kind of blurs the line between work and play, but I'm enjoying it.

Maybe we'll make a convert out of you yet??

Perhaps I will play more on a laptop, but converting to a Mac probably won't happen as it would be too expensive to convert all the software.

Hi T Paul, the main reason for not using a Mac is that when they go awol, parts cost a fortune compared to PCs. When part prices come down I might consider a Mac, not before. Also over here, the chances of finding anyone who repairs Macs is pretty remote, PC repairers are falling out of the woodwork. May not be so your side of the pond, so can't comment there.
