Hi noviardi,

Welcome to RP! :pleased:

Wow, impressive work ....I've never done it in such a dramatic way, but I think the trick is artfully blending two or more pictures together ... You could have a look at our Challenges, here (http://www.retouchpro.com/challenges/showgallery.php/cat/586/page/) and here (http://www.retouchpro.com/challenges/showgallery.php/cat/573/page/) for tips and ways on how to try something like that...

Hi
I this is my first attempt with this, so be gentle:
First i found a black +White photo of Cindy Crawford and a elephant skin texture i found on Google.

Steps:
1. Opened image double clicked it in the layers panel and named it cindy.then Duplicated the layer named it cindy 2.
2. Opened the second image ( elephant texture ) and then dragged on to the Duplicated layer ( cindy 2 ).
3. Clicked on eye in layer ( cindy 2 ) to hide the texture.
4. Clicked on Cindy 1 Layer, then double clicked the QM button in the tools panel and choose selected areas, opacity 60%.
5. Used soft brush to mask the face, then clicked back to standard mode, where it now shows the selected areas.
6. Clicked eye on cindy 2 layer and then clicked on add layer mask.
7. Double clicked cindy 2 layer to enter blending options, chose Multiply and set the blending to General Blending -Color Dodge - Advance Blending 48%.

Look also at Manipulation Challenge 32 entitled Rushmore. There people have made themselves stone and replaced the presidents at Rushmore with those "new" stone images.

This was just a quick sample of something similiar i knocked up.

Its all down to the displacement map. You need to create a displacement map so that you texture can wrap around the face, this is the most important part.

Pick a good texture, for this sample i used a pebble texture, just to see how it would react.

You then need to apply the texture to the face, but keep the face's shape and tones, so this is where the displacement map comes in, it basically uses greyscale tones to build a map onto which the texture wraps, giving it a well blended and realistic appearance.

I wont go into too much detail right now, as it is late, but i will endevour to write a proper in-depth tutorial on how to use displacement maps to create unique atmospheric images, but i hope it gives you a general idea.

Wow!! They look great, it's amazing what you can do with PS, perhaps we could set a challenge, just to see how many techniques people use.
What do you Think?????
Cheers
