Hello,

I'm working on a client's photo and have attached a small section below. The photo I received was very grainy so I used Neat Image to try to smooth things out. I ran the image through one time then worked on levels, etc. and ran it through again. The problem is the grain has not improved much. I'm using the auto rough and fine settings and wonder if I can get better results with manually adjusting them. If Neat Image can't smooth things out what else should I try?

Thanks!

Mona

Hi Mona

Not sure if this gets you any closer. Ran the first thru Neat Image and the second thru Noise Ninja. Are either approaching what you need? Too much? Not enough?

Cheers

Hi Dave,

Thanks for trying to improve my image. I discovered something that seemed to help. I had scanned the photos at a very high resolution and later decided I didn't really need the extra pixels. I ended up editing that version instead of the lower resolution photo. I imagine Neat Image didn't really have a good representative section with which to build the profile because the selection "square" is only so big and my photo was too large. Once I used the lower resolution file Neat Image cleaned it up nicely.

Thanks,

Mona

hmmm... i was having a problem with FFT but things improved once i scanned a lower res. btw, what res would you recommend for scanning? everyone i "work" for usually wants their wallet size resized to 8x10... so i usually try hi res 800 dpi, but i'm not really sure this is the best way. not all the filters take this high resolution...
