I thought this might work for some neat paint blobs I discovered with the PlasticWrap filter. It didn't behave as I intended, but I still found the result here interesting and workable. Layers (bottom to top):

BG: Original picture
A: Copy BG. Decolor. Clone vegetation into the black area above lead rider.
B: Copy A. Invert. LinearDodge mode
A1: Copy A (turn off visibiliity for now)
B1: Copy B (turn off visibiliity for now)
A2: Copy A (turn off visibiliity for now)
B2: Copy C. change to ColorDodge mode (turn off visibiliity for now)

Run PlasticWrap 20/12/13 on layer B
C: Merge visible (A & B). Levels Adj to darken.
C1: copy BG. Color mode. Merge down (C1 back into C)

Turn on visibility for A1 & B1. Turn off C.
Run PlasticWrap filter (15/10/8 ???) on layer B1
D: Merge visible (A1&B1). Levels to darken. Motion Blur -23/35. Opacity ~50%
E: Copy BG. Color mode.
F: Merge visible (C,D,E). Turn off visibility of layers C thru F.

Turn on visibility for A2 & B2. Run Fresco 4/4/2 on layer A2.
Turn on visibility for layers C,E & F.
Set layer F to ColorBurn, 55% opacity. Set layer C to 31% opacity (still Normal mode).

It never ceases to amaze me how people find "useful [as in arty] uses" for filters that just don't get much love or respect.

Creatively done, Mark.

CLICK HERE (http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8328&page=3&pp=15) for Mike Finn's "Impressionist" filter style that i've used for this image.
First, i used a sketch layer, overlay blend, merge, then the impr filter, then did a bit of tweaking with color balance.

Hi,
Impressionist filter seems to be popular on this one, and here's what I've come up with so far. This one underwent lots of hue/sat enhancements, smudges, and finally Impressionist filter djroil24.

Hi,
Impressionist filter seems to be popular on this one. I've been trying for a LeRoy Neiman look (my apologies to Mr. Neiman), and here's what I've come up with so far. This one underwent lots of hue/sat enhancements, smudges, and finally Impressionist filter djroil24.

...the colors and texturing really make this one.

LeRoy would surely be pleased. :hat:

Thank you, Danny. :classic:
I think I remember seeing a challenge on LeRoy Neiman's look somewhere around here. If anyone else has been playing with this style, I would love to exchange notes.

Created 4 Photo Filter layers, Red,Blue,Yellow and Green. Changed blend mode to Soft Light and changed opacities. Offset each layer slightly. Added slight motion blur to base layer.

Cheers

A. Really appreciate the step detail.
B. Really, really like the results.

I attempted to follow in your footsteps and got 75% of the way there, but couldn't come close on the colors. That Nik Color Efex Pro 2.0 Pastel and Varitone effect makes a significant difference.

Simply outstanding, T. Well done.

Painter IX and Photoshop to finish
Ok, from the front

Cyclist #1 was done with wet Oil Brush 10
Cyclist #2 was done with Flat Oil Brush
Cyclist #3 was done with Chalk
Cyclist #4 was done with water colour with a heavy dark wash
Cyclist #5 was done with Impasto ( small )
Cyclist #6 was done with Van Gogh
Nothing done to Cyclist #6

Background was done with a heavy wash of water as was the shadows

Imported into Photoshop and texturised with Canvas

Imported into Photoshop and texturised with Canvas
Unfortunately I was not able to see much of the artwork due to the heavy application of texture. I would have liked to see it sans canvas.

I liked the idea of varying the technique by cyclist. That was very creative.

Same as above minus the canvas texture.

Thanks Danny! The Pastel filter did very little to the image. Mainly it just softened the colors. It was the Ph.Styler Varitone filter that produced the rich colors.

some very cool interpretations. I especially like Duv's interpretation.
Mine was done very quickly. Trying to portray a sense of speed and motion.
I just used quick mask to mask out part of the lead bicyclist and used the motion blur filter on the rest of the image.

Do you want an honest answer Legacy ? or the RetouchPro answer ?

Honest answer = Yes

RetouchPro answer = You look lovely, your tone and saturation are wonderful and you have a certain humourous grace about you, however, a small trip to the Restoration forum would help to improve things.......

This is a blatant ripoff of T's method above, less the Nik filters that I wish I had. Before applying her steps I applied Levels and Hue/Saturation to the background to spice up the colors (more saturation) and fine tune the contrast.

To the T inspired layer I applied Impressionist custom style #djroil24 (click HERE (http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/showpost.php?p=69893&postcount=6)) which I backed off to about 75% via Edit > Fade Impressionist.

I duplicated the BG and applied Photoshop's Dry Brush. This layer was moved to the top of the layer stack and a Hide All layer mask added. I restored detail around the riders' faces by airbrushing white onto the layer mask.

Nicely done Danny! You boosted those colors without the need of the Nik filters just fine! I also like the more abstract feel that the Impressionist custom style and Dry Brush creates.

Excellent!

wunderbarful stuff :bigthmb:

Dave - straight for the cover of sports-mag
jaykita - i love especially how those trees turned out in your piece
raniday - just lovely
T Paul - well, what to say?

i used just art hist brush, and gradually from back to front decreased the brush size to induce some kinda feeling of focus...

Smashing results everyone

PR Brightness - dupe this layer
L2 - Slight Buzz Simplifier/UDF (User Defined Filter Paint Shop Pro)Find Edges/Negative
New Layer Under Layer 2
L3 - Transparency Filter/Eliminate White - Dodge
L2 - Edge Preserving Smooth 9
Merge all.
Selective sharpening of trees, front bikes.
Auto Contrast Enhancement.

Really, really nice effect Neve! I used Art History Brush, Nagel12-13 85 Width 65% Opacity Tight Short , just a few broad strokes across the image. Hit image with Unsharp Mask 145/7/0. Changed brush size to 37 and painted over the racers. Changed to 68% Luminosity Mode. Hit image again with Unmask Sharp 145/7/0.

Cheers
Dave

A variation of the Howie Mudge technique, and then ran the layer mask and the top layer thru a couple of filters (poster edges, diffuse - darken -- some others that didn't pan out).

[Mudge technique -- duplicate original layer. On the new layer, name it dissolve. On the dissolve layer, use smart blur edge only and normal, and invert. Create a third layer by making a duplicate of dissolve. Call this third layer soft and switch it off temporarily. (I made my copy BEFORE running smart blur.)

Add a layer mask to the "dissolve layer" and using a large soft edge brush, changing the effect from normal to dissolve, start erasing the photo, as much as you want. As little or as much. Once this is complete, turn back on your soft layer. Now finally blend the third layer with soft light and it gives a wonderful painted effect. [I didn't use the dissolve layer mode - used normal for different effect.]

Sidis, I adore Neiman's work. I think you've done an excellent job emulating him, considering the limitations of computer aided art. Wish it were sharper though. Must be the 100 kb thing.
