OK...
Duped BG.
I thought "RED" was a large part of this picture.
Played with Levels on the channels to increase the redness of the pic.
Then loaded the BG as a selection and applied that as a Layer mask to red layer.
Inverted the layer mask.
Stamped Visible.
Ran Photoshop:Sketch:Graphic Pen - 5, 27, right diagonal after making a dark red my foreground color.
Faded to Pin Light.
Loaded Red layer's green channel as a selection and applied that as Layer mask to Graphic Pen layer.
Inverted Layer Mask.
Duped BG again.
Ran Photoshop:Sketch:Halftone Pattern - 3, 31, Dot.
Stamped Visible.
Ran Impressionist:Marker:Textured Sepia Tonal.
Faded to Multiply and lowered Opacity.
Ran Impressionist:Ink: Spiderweb Crosshatch - changed color to Foreground.
Faded to Pin Light and lowered Opacity.
Duped BG again.
Ran Photoshop:Stylize:Find Edges.
Desaturated.
brought that layer on top.
Set layer blending to Overlay.
Selected White in that layer and applied a Layer mask.
Inverted Layer mask.
Stamped visible.
Ran Photoshop:Texture:Texturizer- Canvas, 97, 3, Bottom Left.

Please forgive my lack of description but both these examples took considerable time and over 40 layers and to remember and write everything would be a pretty tall order, but when i get some sleep, i may perhaps share a few tips.

The house had such good lines and so much character, I didn't want to change that I went for the nothing fancy approach...just your basic pencil sketch and brush strokes.

I pretended I was painting this one, lying in the tulip patch in late February, when the trees have just begun to bud. The main filter I used was PhotoShop Dry Brush.

 Great Posts!!!

More experimentation in Painter. Started off following a tute for a sketch. Used this to create a Watercolour of sorts?! Gave up and finished off in PSP8 applying a Detail Brushstroke effect. Also added Gregs Pool Shadow filter to add a lighting effect.

Very, very impressive. Did the texture-look come from Painter or Paint Shop Pro?

Is PSP8 Detail Brushstroke a filter?

I did all these in Paint Shop Pro.v9 with my new toys scripts...

1. Airbrush and ink script
2. Watercolour script
3. Septia frame script (I love this one...I plan to use this script on my parents photographs)...
4. Black & White pencil drawing script
5. Charcoal script...

I adore these scripts, had only ever used Paint Shop Pro.v.9 for resizing pictures and removing red eye...yeah so since i found a site that does psp scripts i was really enjoying the program.

In England we just do not have these kind of houses...Or not here in Lancashire we don't!

(Anyone have psp8 or psp9 and would like any of these scripts then please email me i will be happy to send them to you).

These look promising, but the examples are WAY TOO SMALL to assess the effects.

If you can, would you replace these with larger versions? (click the Edit button for your post, engage the Manage Attachments dialog (delete each and upload bigger versions).

Are you writing the scripts?

No i don't write the scripts i found them on a website...

Er i shall have to redo the pictures cos everytime i tried to upload them it said they was way to huge so i made them too small lol!

I shall have a go when i get home...Got a few birthday cards and presents to go get before tomorrow...

Is PSP8 Detail Brushstroke a filter?

"Detail" is my own setting within PSP8's Artistic Brushstrokes i.e.

Softness=5/Length=10/Density=75/Bristles=210/
Width=1/Opacity=2/Angle=135/Colour=Dark Gray

I regret the lack of steps given on this - I was trying this tutorial first in Painter and not getting satisfactory results:-

http://www.bildsajten.com/painter/tut2/tut2.htm

I then decided to use my result and clone in the colours from original photo following the lines of the building etc. I selected colours for the sky though and the grass as there was little in the original. The brushes used ????????
I did use soft clone brush to bring back some detail to the window surrounds and door etc. (A tip from another tutorial). I haven't advanced far enough with Painter to know how to "finish" a project correctly so I opt for PSP8.1 for that at present.

If this turned out okay to your eyes I assure you it was accidental

re: Scripts
If you have the script download site handy, post the URL(s) if you would so other Paint Shop Pro users can get to them.

re: Larger versions of the images
I just dusted off Paint Shop Pro 7.0. The File > Export > Jpg dialog has controls where you can adjust the output file size. Have you tried that dialog?

10" x 12" at 72 ppi should optimize nicely in less than 100KB. Give this a go when you get time. I would sure like to see larger versions.

Let's see...
I think I threw everything but the kitchen sink at this one. Final is mostly spattered strokes, paint engine, and texturizer.

I put some water on my house and grew it. Then selected brick with Color Range and applied Photoshop Texture: Brick (now isn't that novel!)
Ran Impressionist: Colored Screen On Black/Background Color/25/100/200.
Bit of Burning on the branches.

Cheers

Here's my house ! I'm working my way through all these threads one by one :D

Used the smart blur filter, watercolour art history brush and some duplicating and blending of layers then painted in some colour to the sky by hand.

You've got a lot catching up to do! :)

Seriously... no rush. Go in any sequence you like. There are many to inspire and challenge you. Have fun on each.

Thanks Danny! The texture I used is from a piece of my own handmade paper that I scanned in.

If anyone would like a copy of it just PM me and I'll send a high res copy through to you.
