View Full Version : Creative interpretations: Laughing Kookaburra My hubby and I had a pleasant trip prior to Xmas. Armed with my new digital cam I tried to capture some local birdlife...this is one of the better ones :)
I hope you all have fun 'creating' a masterpiece! CJ Swartz 01-18-2005, 02:57 AM Neve, I LOVE Kookaburras - we have only one at our Phoenix Zoo, but I've heard him a couple of times -- unique sound! He looks like the jub-jub bird.
Here he sits on a kaleidoscope of himself. Janet Petty 01-18-2005, 07:27 AM CJ, WOW, Wonderful. Great colors. Great blending of two styles. Too bad this isn't one of those rich, unique plates for collectors. It would be an awesome seller.
Janet I agree Janet, this is a super result...! I was showing my grandson the other one you did CJ, of the parrot, how the parrots eyes appeared all around the outside edge. This is very effective. jaykita 01-19-2005, 09:57 AM :wavey: Neve, Thanks for such a sweet picture.
This is my effort. I really enjoyed doing it  PamSav 01-19-2005, 10:02 AM Love this Jaykita, really looks like a painting. Did you do it in Corel Painter? Oh...well done Jaykita and my pleasure to view!!!! jaykita 01-20-2005, 05:52 AM Love this Jaykita, really looks like a painting. Did you do it in Corel Painter?
Thank- you Pam. I worked on it in corel painter and then used the watercolor filter in photoshop. Neat, huh! In my experience, it's quite a deadly combo! CJ Swartz 01-20-2005, 06:23 AM Janet, Neve -- thanks!
Jaykita -- very lovely! :pleased: PamSav 01-20-2005, 09:39 AM Thanks Jaykita, I'll have to try that out myself. It really does look great. LQQKER 01-20-2005, 05:36 PM A great captured pose. :pleased:
A bit different than the Kingfisher from my area.
Knocked out image.
Used virtual painter for bg, slightly altered.
Adapt.eq to bring out some detail.
Simplified lightly.
Created frame with sketchmaster.
Hue & sat adj.
Color balance.
Feathered edges to blend.
Brilliance and warmth adj. Janet Petty 01-20-2005, 09:33 PM Wonderful LQQKER. Very detailed yet still looks like a painting. Well done Lqqker...I took about 6 of this Kook..a, it was windy and the others had him in the shadows because he was sitting under a very large camphor tree. This was the only one with light all over him.
I was amazed at how still he kept whilst I approached. raniday 01-21-2005, 06:41 AM I took this cute li'l guy and put him through the cutout filter in Photoshop, then a gaussian blur. I did an outline by hand, using my trusty Intuos 3 tablet on another layer; canvas texture, rotated 90 degrees, another canvas texture, USM on high levels, and boosted the saturation a bit to bring out some more color. kiska 01-21-2005, 08:01 AM I combined 2 images, find edges, blends, Painter8, then back to Photoshop for feivel's glow. Terrific result Raniday! Must try this method, I like the result very much.
Kiska - "killing two birds...." as they say! LOL. Wonderful result, cleverly combined. raniday 01-21-2005, 09:11 PM Thanks, Neve:) And thanks for letting me play w/ your cute little Kookabura. Maybe I've seen one in the zoo, but that's all. Stewart_1986 02-10-2005, 04:28 PM Hey i noticed a fan of the Kookaburra, have a look at these i took (please dont alter them though!)

Hope you like them CJ Swartz 02-10-2005, 10:33 PM Stewart -- Welcome!! Thanks for the link to your kookaburra photos -- way cool! I doubt I'll ever see one in the wild, and seeing one fly in your photos is a first for me. Thanks for the link to their cry also -- love it!! The one at our zoo calls out sometimes when I'm there, but not often enough -- now I can hear it whenever I want... JustChecking 02-13-2005, 12:19 PM painter+impressionist... poor little birdie, i completely lost him on the way :bawling: | |
