When/If I ever get it completely figured out, I'll post some real how tos. In the meantime, I'm certainly enjoying the process. Janet P.S. Danny, this is the FIRST one I did in Painter. :) jaykita 01-21-2005, 11:33 PM W-O-W JANET!! Excellent work! Pleeeeese do give details sooooon!! Axleuk 01-21-2005, 11:41 PM Janet, thats a lovely rendition you have there, amazing stuff !! May i ask you a question ? When you say OLD WORLD, can you explain exactley what you envision ? I have an idea myself but would like you to clarify...it has me intrigued. SWEngineer 01-21-2005, 11:57 PM Janet, I like your rendition here even better for an "old world" look. Maybe it's the old world subject? :) Neve, a great image to work with. Thanks. (Sort of... I was gonna go to bed, but I saw this and had to have a go at it.) Created a new backdrop in Elements2 then Painter8 SmearyBristle Cloner. I left the painting a bit rough and actually roughened it a bit more with the Blenders>GrainyBlender. -Mark Neve 01-22-2005, 12:20 AM Marvellous result Janet for your first go in Painter! Can't wait to see what you come up with next... Well done also Mark (who should be snoring by now?). I thought this image would be a good one with the definition in colour and character evident in her face. CJ Swartz 01-22-2005, 12:45 AM Janet, I love your painting rendition! Wonderful feel and look. raniday 01-22-2005, 07:38 AM Janet and Mark, these are wonderful. Axle, I want to thank you for posting the Painter tutorial. It's so detailed and clear. Painter 7 (which I understand isn't the best) has been sitting on my hard drive for 2 years, thought I couldn't live without it, and I've hardly opened it, but your tutorial might just get me going! :) Legacy~Art 01-22-2005, 07:44 AM Well done you gave it the authentic realism look...And your new at the painter too, (ahem...I opened the trial, played, closed it and ran from it). crex 01-22-2005, 05:04 PM Draganize Action + Look and Feel Axleuk 01-22-2005, 05:28 PM Crex, Your image is fantastic, i love the atmoshere it has created, but can you be a little more specfic at to how you acheive this result. What are these actions you have mentioned ? and where can we sample them from ? Would be great to have more info. Thanks Legacy~Art 01-22-2005, 06:35 PM What is Draganize Action? Oh by the way love the look it looks like she been a heavy smoker... :classic: Axleuk 01-22-2005, 07:25 PM Painter IX: Photoshop: Used the Bristle Brush Cloner, then imported into Photoshop to do colour correction and lighting effects. Duv 01-22-2005, 08:40 PM Talk about a lifetime of toil! I wish I could see her hands. Dodged her creases. Selected her face and parchment and old film plugins. Inverted and ran MF Watercolor and MF pOpArTiSt actions. Lightened her eyes. She may have been a beauty when she was young, but she had to do what she had to do. Cheers Dave jaykita 01-22-2005, 10:38 PM Cloned with glazing brush in painter, usm and watercolor filter in ps7. Neve 01-22-2005, 10:49 PM Outstanding results folks   Legacy and Axle - folks have been trying for ages to copy this talented guy's style... http://andrzejdragan.com/ There's a Photoshop Action (perhaps more) here that you can try on your images. (Just noticed CREX had already posted this link also.... ) http://www.atncentral.com/download.htm I've been keen to give it a go myself but haven't found the time yet.... Duv 01-22-2005, 11:01 PM Good job CREX! Jaykita I love the simplicity and bold strokes. Well done! Cheers Dave Neve 01-23-2005, 05:00 AM Painter 8 Impasto/Round Camel Hair on Woollen cap (Gray and Purple parts) Impasto/Wet Bristle on Yellow and Red Scarfs Blender/Detail Blender 5 (Hat, Scarves) Blender/Just Add Water on everything except Face which wasn’t done at that point. Blender/Smear – Jacket Only Cloner/Soft Cloner to bring back some detail On hats, scarves, jackets and edging. The hard part (for moi) came next…the face. Started with Cloner/Wet Oils Cloner 10 Blender/Detail ? 5 Did not like result at all. Tried to fix with Oils/Round Camelhair then Acrylics/Wet Soft Acrylic 10 Opened in PSP8.1 and used darken tool To emphasis wrinkles more. JustChecking 01-23-2005, 10:41 AM great photo, and great results you got from it, ppl!  i tried to keep it "simple" ;) Duv 01-23-2005, 05:07 PM Here's my first crack at using Painter 8. Background in Photoshop Textures: Burlap plus Aged Film plugin. Not sure what I'm doing yet. Too much? Not enough? Comments welcome. Thanks Axle for the Toot! Cheers Dave Janet Petty 01-23-2005, 05:31 PM Very nice Duv. I think you are spot on. Great job. Duv 01-23-2005, 05:46 PM Thanks Janet! If I get enough positive feedback maybe I can talk my wife into letting me get a Wacom. Now wouldn't that be sweet! Dave Neve 01-23-2005, 06:00 PM Terrific efforts Duv and JC. I found this really very difficult but you both pulled this off so very well. Janet Petty 01-23-2005, 07:22 PM The Wacom tablet is certainly worth it not only from an artistic standpoint but from an osteo standpoint. I have severe arthritis in my neck and shoulders, which affected my arm when I used a mouse. I justified the wacom on health principles alone and have NEVER regretted it. What is the $300 when compared to surgery? Janet SWEngineer 01-23-2005, 08:01 PM Dave, Your Painter version turned out great. But I'm with Janet... You really should get a tablet if you can. I think the WetOils10 cloner is pretty forgiving, even when used with a mouse (making it a great beginner brush - its the first one I had really good success with). But many of the tools, at least in my clumsy hands, simply aren't functional without having the pressure sensitive control. I use the smallet, bottom of the line Wacom - Graphire3 4x5. It should be easily available for less than $100US. Possibly you can get a used one for far less. Maybe you can sweeten the deal for your wife by promising her a nice Painter portrait or 10. :D Duv 01-23-2005, 08:35 PM Thanks Mark! That's encouraging. I thought I was going to need the Big Daddy and for that I would have had to do a LOT more than a Painter portrait! Cheers Dave dkcoats 02-17-2006, 05:00 PM Did a little Draganizing on the old gal, then took her into Gertrudis Pro, then back to Photoshop CS2 to add a little outlining, some curves and a touch of hue/sat. dc lkroll 02-17-2006, 05:15 PM Retinex, desaturated, Flaming Pear's Mr. Contrast and some adjustments. Flattened. Then duplicated and ran Xero's ArtiFax filter on the base layer and then adjusted the opacity on top layer to taste. :) Second one is a smudge/Impressionist combo and also using Xero's ArtiFax filter for the canvas texture. :) philbach 02-18-2006, 07:27 AM I used Studio Artist on this photo. Steve Conway 02-18-2006, 11:06 AM From her we could learn many things. Steve Steve Conway 02-18-2006, 11:17 AM As Van Gogh may have pictured her. Steve pellepiano 02-20-2006, 07:53 AM Old painting sort of. Blendmodes, textures. MargaretM 02-21-2006, 09:00 AM Experimented in Painter, using Gouache technique. Added visible brushstrokes with impasta brushes and messed with pallette knives to smear a bit. For the background used a variety of sponges. Used fine hard paper, which I read is usually used in Goache. As I said - experimental! Have enjoyed all the different versions so far. MargaretM patriciakay 09-06-2006, 04:03 PM What a lot of interesting versions of this Ethnic lady....thought i would have a go too as i am trying to get into painting faces instead of mostly flowers.... Photoshop CS2 with the ahb then i used curves and a few other things...cant remember as i was interupted mid flow...The album page is an action by Panos... Patricia... :dizzy: palms1 09-07-2006, 06:30 AM Been a while since i done a smudge so that's what i did Palms patriciakay 09-07-2006, 06:38 AM What a lovely smudge it is too...Palms.... Patricia... :classic: oltenius 09-07-2006, 08:37 AM All of you have a well done creation! My attempt has an impressionist and a xero plg. Regards, Dan Steve Conway 09-07-2006, 09:48 AM Another oldie returns! OK here's another try. pavel123 09-09-2006, 04:31 PM Painter IX (oil cloning, artist oils). Pavel Peter S 10-22-2007, 04:59 PM A really nice picture to work on here. So many good versions posted too.
