Hi one and all

Completely new here and to this photo lark, so i am looking for a bit of advice.
Could someone take a look at this photo and advise me as to what or anything can be done, its for my mother in law

Sure this photo can be fixed. It would be nice to find an easy way to do it. I improved the photo by copying the layer, selecting the highlights and lowering the tone to remove the spot. That helped about 30% of the Photo. By using a paint brush or clone tool in darkening mode you probably can fix the rest.

It is quite easy restoration if you have a better file. This one is to compressed to do something, JPEG "squares" are everywhere.

If you have better copy you can do a lot with clone stamp tool as philbach said.

If you can upload a better copy of this image I can try to do something and show you what can be done.

OK, here is what i did on 15 minutes, i do not have more time now.

1. Lightened picture with Levels.
2. Repaired their faces with Healing Brush Tool
3. Repaired their clothes and background with Stamp Tool.

Ofcourse it can be done better and more accurate, but... on biger picture.

I worked on the second picture you posted ...(definitely much better than the extremely compressed first one!!! :wink:

Here is what I did:

I duplicated the background Layer.

Working on the duplicate, I used the Patch Tool to remove the worst 'patches'

I selected (feather 2 pixels) the light 'taped area' at the top, expanded the selection (8 pixels) , created a new blank Layer, sampled colour close to the couple's heads, and filled the selction with the sampled colour.

I used the Heal Brush to blend in the filled area with the rest.

To reduce the numerous discolorations, correct, and emphasize selected parts of the picture, I created 'my' usual variety of empty Layers ( Blendings: Lighten, Darken, Overlay and Normal) and with a soft white/black Brush (Opacity 10-30%), I carefully painted over the details I wanted to enhance.

I Merged Visible ... the action for merging 'visible' without losing the underlying 'steps' can be downloaded here (http://www.retouchpro.com/resources/fileinfo.php?id=11).

I duplicated the 'merged Layer and reduced the noise using Neat Image (can be downloaded free here (http://www.neatimage.com/download.html) ) after having created a 'surface' mask as described in Mitch's excellent Tutorial (http://tinyurl.com/5pffd).

I used Levels and Curves Adjustment Layers to adjust tone and contrast ...

I used the USM to enhance the contrast and to sharpen the image a bit.

I used Hue&Saturation to lightly colorize the image.

Finally, I created a very soft dark vignette (feather>60 pixels) to darken edges and corners of the picture to make the couple 'pop' out more.
