I don't know about anyone else, but I'm ready for spring. Enough already with the winter. Neve, you've been making me so long for warmer weather I can't stand it any longer. So have fun with a flower picture and keep in mind that spring/summer is just around the corner for those of us in the northern hemisphere.

Thank you for a lovely floral photo Janet. I couldn't forget about life in the Northern Hemisphere, I lived their for the best part of 27 years. Canada and Scotland... so I appreciate totally how you must be feeling right now waiting for warmer weather. ;)

Janet, thanks for the pretty flowers. I added a couple of flowers and used Impressionist filter and Sharon's mat action.

Wonderful Raniday. Simply wonderful. Wanna come play when the spring flowers are out in bloom? We can take lots of pics like these.

Janet -- I'm with you -- definitely in favor of Spring!!
Gotta have sunshine and warmth. I live in the "Valley of the Sun" but we've got more rain clouds headed our way.

The sunlight is beginning to warm these blooms, but some are still waiting and hoping...

Lovely results everyone. I made a square selection, brightened with Filter PR Brightness. Impressionist/03 CH More Stuff - Stitches 83/97/200 (i.e. Cheryl's sets). Thanks Cheryl, very useful!!! Sharpened the stitches using AIM/USM filter. Used same selection of your floral Janet and used Enki's
http://www.netreach.net/~barry/downloads.html
Wallpaper filter to create the bg.

Not exactly painterly but was fun anyway.

Great results everyone. It's amazing how many different ways we each see the composition of the wildflowers.

Neve, I especially like the stitches. I can't help but think about how long it would take to do something like that by hand.

Janet, just say when. My car has been in the garage way too much this winter and wouldn't mind a day trip up to your part of the state; I'll bring my camera, and we'll make a day of it.
CJ, I like that so much. How did you do it?
Neve, I don't mean to be thick headed, but where did you get the Impressionist/03 CH More Stuff - Stitches 83/97/200? That's kewl. I just now downloaded the Enki's filter but haven't installed it. Is it mainly for backgrounds?

I love purple flowers. I used impressionist watercolor on this, then reversed this layer, and simply merged it with original on lightest (the watercolor) and added canvas.

Lovely work everyone!
I adore flowers.
Janet, i esp like your 3rd image. So pretty! How did u get this effect?
I was just toying with a tutorial by Jacquelin Vanderwood ...
you'll find it HERE. (http://www.designertoday.com/tabindex-16/tabId-19/itemid-1474/DesktopDefault.aspx)

Btw, i did one using this same tute for the "Leaves of Autumn (Geddes)" thread.

Jaykita, the square one is AWESOME, creative, fanciful, and bold. You have such talent!!!

My third one was a very high emboss and unsharp mask to almost blown out proportions. Then inverted it and overlayed onto the painted copy (number one). Merged and the last step was to solarize the whole thing and then invert.

Hi Raniday, I downloaded Cheryl's Impressionist sets from here:-

http://f2.pg.briefcase.yahoo.com/bc/charriga@pacbell.net/lst?.dir=/imp+extra+paper&.view=l

You need to have the Impressionist Plugin installed first though. Contact Danny Raphael, he can help you with this Plugin.

Some very generous folks here at RetouchPRO have also contributed other VERY useful sets for Impressionist which you can download from here:-

http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8328&page=2&pp=10

Yes, Enki's wallpaper filter is very simple but effectively creates striped wallpaper quickly. Useful, I've used it in a lot of projects. Especially on some 12 x 12" Scrapbook layouts which I design for the family.

Thanks Janet, I have cross-stitch projects on my walls so I know how long that takes me..the pity is, I spend too much time computing now to do much stitching.

Lovely result Jaykita, innovative and pleasant to view. I recall you posted something prior with those delicate florals, that was lovely too.

Thank you, Neve. I have Impressionist, but I've not spent much time getting acquainted with it, and I've never added "sets" to it. I'll go browsing the pages you showed me.

Here's my attempt with the flowers. Are they Impatiens?, they look like the ones I had last summer.

Masked the flowers out in PSCS, duplicated the bottom left one and placed it top right.

3 different watercolour brushes in Painter IX then back into PSCS for Impressionist jch VanGogh and fingerpaint. Added trimoons artpaper texture and there you have it :) I've been trying to practice with a more loose and realistic watercolour effect so I really like this.

I really like this too Pam, lovely result. I get mixed up between vincas and impatiens!???

Janet Petty
01-29-2005, 08:26 AM
I seriously doubt these flowers are impatiens for two simple reasons. One, they are wildflowers and I found them in the deep woods; Two, they are perennials. I don't believe impatiens are. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. (Ok, I did find out there are some varieties of impatiens that are perennials.)

In the meantime, have fun with them. I'm sitting here iced in and wishing for spring and more wildflowers. I'll do some serious research into finding out what kind of flowers they are and let ya'll know.

I'm glad everyone has such a variety of artistic talent. Wonderful stuff.

Janet

These flowers are in the phlox family. Referenced "Wildflowers of Arkansas" by Carl G. Hunter.

Defiitely in favor of Spring and Summer. Our trees and flowers are all starting to bloom in Florida and I have my performed my annual rite of Spring - planting grass plugs in the yard. I used to live up north but can't imagine those very cold conditions for too long, any more. Am off to Africa in a few weeks and they, like Australia are heading into fall and winter.

Very cool Crex, and love your's Catherine... in fact all the entries are lovely.
I don't paint many flowers (this is my defense and I'm sticking to it!), but thought I would try my hand at a few different brushes... it's all fun.

Impressionist with Van Gogh preset set to luminosity on duplicate layer. GIMP Bumpmapping with some contrast enhancements and back to Photoshop for Underpainting. Like I said; not creative. Just plain Jane filter work. Sorry for my lack of motivation; had a rough day. :)

Spring needs to come again soon. I'm glad someone revisited this thread. It gives me a chance to reflect on the progress (or not) that I've made in the last year.

And Ro...I wish you had an idea. I love it. :)

Jaykita, Nanls, Pam, JC, Steve... GREAT work. Such different approaches.

Nanls.. especially like your first of three. It would look good on my bedroom wall! The colors are perfect.

I've been so busy and not enough time to play!! Here's a quick montage.

Photoshop CS2

Used grids to divide the layer. Marquee and put each corner on a new layer.

Desaturated all four layers. Added a color fill layer to each (blue, pink, green and purple. Set to the fill layers to multiply blend mode.

Knocked out the borders, increased the canvas size for the outer border area. Filled with goldish yellow. Pixelize->Pointilize filter added some texture.
