In PShop, I cropped the image to emphasize the caboose with the two railroaders, then used a copy of the blue channel to mask out the pole and wires at the top of the image.

I made a texture layer, then used it as a mask to apply some filters -- dry brush, cutout, brush strokes -- to part of the image. Then added my texture at a reduced opacity in overlay mode.

Back to reality, the crop was a great idea. It did just what you wanted it to.

On mine I applied the "T technique" (click HERE (http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/showpost.php?p=79091&postcount=15)) twice, merged to a new layer followed by a couple layers of Impressionist > Chalk Sketch > Half finished blended at ~50% opacity and a Hue/Sat adjustment layer with Sat = 60 to boost the colors.

Great results Danny and CJ. I brightened with PR Brightness filter. Duped bottom layer. 2nd Layer - PR Black and White Studio/Orange filter. Erased on 2nd layer to allow red to show through. Merged. Impressionist/Trimoon's Chalk Effect/Size 25. Mode - Hard Light. Added a mask and filled bg with pale gray - used Greg's Pool Shadow on this (a gradient fill would have done just the same?!)

Nice work, Danny. If Simon heard me sing, I would get one of those pained looks, and a quick sharp dismissal.

Thanks CJ - that was my intention. Always loved b/w with colour picked out. Love those lovely hand-tinted photos done on sepia tones too.

Remind you perhaps of the little girl at the beginning of the movie Schlinder's List (sp?) with the red coat on.

Well I was looking around the web some for some sketch actions. An ran into this one. Loaded it into photoshop and ran it on the caboose. I fiddled with it some at various stop points in the action and this is what I ended up with.

Ditto what Neve said, Phil... That turned out very nice. I especially like the vignette effect.
