Pic found here (http://www.elkorose.com/pics2001/010619freckles_small.JPG) raniday 02-11-2005, 03:56 PM Maybe not terribly imaginative but more practice in Painter for me. Thanks, Legacy~Art. http://www.pbase.com/image/39647276 Janet Petty 02-11-2005, 04:40 PM Gorgeous and very peaceful Cat. Wonderful painting. Janet Legacy~Art 02-11-2005, 06:12 PM Raniday WOW WOW WOW WOW that is gorgeous!!! (guessing your a female here) I think you need to write us all a tutorial on how you achieved that as that is very pretty indeed! Neve 02-11-2005, 07:07 PM Soft, delicate and well done Raniday. :wavey: Neve 02-11-2005, 07:26 PM Thanks Legacy for the photo.... I resized the image to 140% Buzzed it to get rid of artefacts. Duped bottom layer - Mode Soft Light and Merged both layers. Impressionist: Crayon: Lino Chatter Added canvas texture and mask edging. Legacy~Art 02-11-2005, 07:39 PM Neve that also is very pretty, you two ladies are doing us proud! ***Girl Power*** Any men out there up for the challenge? raniday 02-11-2005, 07:48 PM Very nice, Neve; looks like an acrylic on canvas. Thank you all for the nice comments. :rainbow: Yes, Legacy I am a female :hairbow: I don't have much of a tutorial on this one. I just painted it in Painter w/ cloning and splashy watercolor brushes and outlined a bit w/ the 2B pencil, adding the solid background w/ paint, added a gaussian blur layer over it in PhotoShop to soften, used an edge mask/frame and added sandstone texture. Thanks again for the pretty photo. catherine Duv 02-11-2005, 08:22 PM Notice your quotes are from great men! Ha! OK. You cats win. So here's a submission from an old, tired dog..zzzzzzz...oh ya, I like the way the flower appeared so much higher from the ground..as if it was streaking skyward. I selected the flower and pumped the contrast up in Levels. Inverted and did a Radial Blur spin. Ran a cartoon action and slightly darkened the edges with a Darken Edges and Corners action...............i feel so emasculated..... COME ON GUYS...HELP ME OUT HERE!! SO WHAT IF IT'S A ROSE!! Dave SWEngineer 02-11-2005, 11:40 PM I like roses too. Here's my attempt: Made a 'wreath' out of the existing leaves and added a blured leaf background to hide the dirt. Isolated the rose on its own layer and 'subtracted' a high pass 3 copy (inverted, linearlight, 40%) to get a nice, soft focus look. Merged this all together. Cropped & resized. Copied this layer and applied the WaterColor filter. Lowered opacity and added a layer mask to make the rose less filtered. Played around with some vignette stacks to finish. -Mark raniday 02-12-2005, 01:25 AM Dave & Mark, very creative renditions. Dave, I'm glad it didn't e_________ you to paint a rose, and yes, my current quote is from a great man, but the previous one was by Lily Tomlin. I'm an equal opportunity borrower. jaykita 02-12-2005, 08:08 AM To All My RetouchPRO Friends. Have a wonderful day filled with love and happiness! Legacy~Art 02-12-2005, 01:43 PM Haha Dave our great men quotes are to keep you guys on your toes lol! Very nice picture Dave, very manish for a girlie rose! (does that make sense?) Jaykita thats a very nice thing to say i do hope you also have a lovely day its 9pm ish here, and my friend as the flu so its a night in tonight, but tomorrow i am going out with my boyfriend, something to do with valentines weekend... Con Looymans 02-12-2005, 09:50 PM Hi Legacy Art, Here's my (Male) attempt for you. Hope you like it. I cut the rose out of the gackground and converted it into a Brush. I then created two Layers below this and Painted in the rose "Brush strokes". The bottom at 100% the other at 30% to create some depth. To make it more interesting I applied some Filter>Distort Twirl to the bottom Layer and some Outer Glow Layer Style To the actual Rose. Regards Con Looymans Neve 02-12-2005, 10:14 PM  ;) You'll please the ladies with this one Con. Clever use of the rose on the bg which looks delicate. Beautifully done and ready for your Valentine! CJ Swartz 02-12-2005, 10:25 PM The roses above are lovely. raniday -- I love the softness. Mine is a "Not-a-rose" made from the rose. Neve 02-12-2005, 11:42 PM Looks like stained glass CJ! Legacy~Art 02-13-2005, 07:01 AM I am speechless! Woe be tide the lady that gets you Con!:wavey: That is gorgeous...Really pretty i like the idea you made it into a brush can you tell us how you get the rose into a brush and how to use it please? Beautifully done! jaykita 02-13-2005, 09:59 AM I had withdrawn my earlier image, didnt like it at all. We've made plans for a special valentine day celebration on the 14th, its also my mum's birthday, so it will be a family thing with mum and dad joining us as well. I made this greeting card, and you guessed right, i shall present it to my sweet husband! The Lace heart is from a downloaded selection from a tutorial in Paint Shop Pro. I just had to fill in the color etc.The rose of course is hand painted by yours truly. Hope you all like it. JustChecking 02-13-2005, 12:57 PM i guess i lack imagination... it's still a rose :( CJ Swartz 02-13-2005, 01:01 PM Jaykita -- a beautiful tribute to a sweet husband! JustChecking -- it's still a rose, but it's a lovelier rose! :) JustChecking 02-13-2005, 01:11 PM awwww, thanks CJ, you're sweet  jaykita 02-14-2005, 12:39 AM Thanks a bunch, C.J. Your stained glass effect is wonderful, magical! I can see the light shining through! Beautiful soft effect, raniday. :bigthmb: Powerful "masculine" effect, Dave! Grrr! Very nice watercolor, Mark. Very feminine. J.C., Neve, great job! Con, your rose is absolutely gorgeous. I agree with Legacy art. What girl would resist a man who could paint this way for her. Xaran 02-14-2005, 01:22 AM A rose frame. Christine Con Looymans 02-14-2005, 02:39 AM Hi Legacy Art (you smooth talking thing), Thank you for those kind words. Re your question regarding the "Rose Brush", I simply selected the rose to copy onto its own Layer and while it was Selected I went to the Edit menu and used "Define Brush", at which stage a dialogue box will open allowing you to Name the brush. Click "OK". From there it becomes just another Brush with all the usual options of size and opacity etc. From this point I just created an empty Layer below my cut out Rose and started Painting away modifying the color and size every now and then until the Layer was full. I did the same with another Layer at reduced Opacity just to create a bit more depth. Hope this brief note makes sense to you. Regards Con Legacy~Art 02-14-2005, 10:49 AM I just made my boyfriend laugh, he said what you doing, i said i am turning a rose into a brush, his face was funny, he just said "whatever makes you happy" and walked away laughing, i am sure he will tell his Mum i have lost the plot completely now. CJ you should take up making patterns for stain glass windows!!! Jaykita -- a beautiful tribute to a sweet husband! JustChecking -- it's still a rose, but it's a lovelier rose Xaran - Nice work hun! Anyhow Con thanks for the instructions i will try it later on, i can smell rump steak cooking now so i be back later. jaykita 04-28-2005, 12:59 PM This was done in painter 8 using the sargent brush...my fav toy at the moment! Neve 04-28-2005, 04:42 PM I can see why too Judy....the brushwork on the rose is perfect. |
