OK... Let's try something different on this one.

Using Hue/Saturation adjustment layers ONLY (Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Hue/Saturation), see what you can do to this one.

Possibilities:
* An all color creation
* All grayscale (move Saturation sider to the far left; experiment with Lightness)
* Mixed color, grayscale

Hints:
* Add a H/S AL
* Experiment with the sliders, dropdown menu and/or colorize option, then OK
* Ctrl + I to invert the mask (the thumbnail will turn black)
* Press D and X keys to get white as the foreground color
* Paint white on the H/S AL to reveal the effect

Groundrules:
* Use as many H/S adjustment layers as you like.
* If you need to sharpen or blur the base Background, that's OK.

Danny,
First a little question..when you say "Add a H/S AL" is that a mask?

Second question: Layer Sets, OK?

H/S AL = Hue/Saturation Adjustment Layer. Sorry about that.

Layer sets = OK

Don't even ask how much fun this was to do. Danny, you ought to be ashamed. Now I'm going to be up all night playing. Shame, shame. :) :)

Giggling uncontrollably,

Janet

Used different blend modes as well as hue/sat layers, is this allowed.

History channel and brush tool (my fav at the moment), many diff saturation levels incl desaturation. I also used a layer of g'blur + usm, and one spatter filter.
Am i disqualified? :bawling:

Welcome, nkollias...

I don't know if it's just me, but I'm not able to view any of your attached files. :(

If you have Winzip, try .zipping them first, OK?

Great screenshot illustrating your technique! You've definitely got the spirit.

re: Disquallified for coloring outside the lines?
No way! :)

I liked kiska's side-by-side with the Layers Palette, so I'm using the same method!

To create the grid selection...
* Duplicate Background
* Apply Richard Rosenman's Grid plugin (available free here: www.RichardRosenman.com Click Software > Photoshop. This plugin should work for PSP and Elements, too). The plugin rendered a grid of white lines on black background. Perfect!
* Clicked the Channels Palette tab.
* Ctrl click on any of the channels (they're all the same) to "load the selection"
* Back to the layers palette... turn OFF the grid layer
* Press Q to enter Quick Mask mode
* If you've got red grid lines, fine, otherwise Ctrl + I to invert the selection.
* Filter > Other > Minimum to increase the grid line width
* Q to exit Quick Mask
* Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Hue/Saturation. Notice. The B/W grid on the mask? Mess with the sliders.
* Alt + Click on the Hue/Saturation Adjustment Layer mask. The selection is again loaded.
* One more time: Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Hue/Saturation.
* Ctrl + I (to invert the mask)
* Mess with the sliders again to affect the part of the image not affected by the 1st adjustment layer.
* >>Discovery<< I didn't know you could apply Layer Style effects to an adjustment layer... but you can! (Drop shadow, Outer glow and Bevel in this case.)

Holy cow! Does the fun never end?

Well I thought I would do a valentine to you guys.
Used Radial Blur on the Source (Background) Layer-Aggressive
Next Layer was a HSL and colorized and Turned it Red
The Top layer was an HSL layer with zero Brightness and I used the mask of that layer for the greeting.

A+ on the creativity.

quick try with this one, used four hue saturation layers, on the sky I used a star brush to give it a starry effect. Not bad may work on this idea more. Didn't change any of the blending modes. Strictly brushed in different areas with each layer playing with the hue and saturation slider mostly.
Too fun.
