This is a compiliation of the lunar eclipse from October 2004. I would like some critiques of this image please. Share your thought, ideas, and so on.
The image size limitations on the board does not so the picture justice.

Hi Alex,

I'm not really qualified to comment on the technical aspects of your photographs, but the overall image that they portray is quite striking.

Don't get overly upset if no one comments immediately on your posts. Often it's because they have nothing constructive to say. I felt a bit this way myself, I admired your image, but did'nt feel I had anything to say that really added to the subject.

I posted this as you are a new member, and I did'nt want you thinking that no one had even looked at your post. In general, most people on this site are friendly and helpful, but sometimes posts just don't get a lot of response.

Wow, thank you so much Gary. I am glad you liked the picture. A lot went into the composition of it. I wanted to make something special, different. Something that would look appealing to the naked eye.

first of all - i love it.... and as i'm a bit into astronomy, i love it even more :D
second - i'm not pro... i'm not even amateur, so my opinion isn't worth even those 2 cents... :blush:

all right, my critique:
1) the first thing that struck my eye is the "curve of the motion" - the 4th moon from the left (the "smallest piece") is moved too much to the bottom-right, and that's both optically and also in real (if you take a ruller and make a line between the "tops" of the 2 surrounding moons, this one's below this line, while (if i got it right) should be above)
2) the spaces between the successive moons are not uniform - those moons on the left seem closer to each other than those on the right
3) first 3 moons have each different colour - don't know if it's some atmospheric effect or something, but i think it'd look better if all 3 were "b&w", or in the same colour tone
4) the "curve of motion" seems to me steeper on the left than on the right... i guess that alignment to perfect circular arc would look better...

Hehe! Sorry i did look in today, but kind of read it wrong, i thought it was a challenge to paint it and i thought...mmm i didnt know how too lol!

So err hiding the blonde hair now with a big hat and looking very brunette i shall let you know what i think...

I have my own pics of the eclipse. Your coloring is perfect, especially as the moon goes to blood red. You have been able to maintain critical sharpness throughout. Mine are slightly blurry, so Kudos to you Alex..well done.

I love your picture. My student, who is very into planets, etc. will love your picture.

Now for those of us who can take photos of flowers but not the moon. What exposures did you use? Huh? Huh? :)

I used a Nikon D70 with a Nikon 70-300mm Zoom lens with an 2x teleconverter attached to it.

F-Stop = 4.3
Exposure = 5 - 1" different exposure settings depending on the light i was recieving from the moon.
Film Speed = 200ISO
Camera was set to manual mode for better control of the exposures.

Ohh, almost forgot something very important. Tripod was used as well as a remote control to triger the camera.
