I'm still experimenting with the Wow Watercolor method. It seems to work better on "scenery" than "people."

This is a very cute picture nonetheless.

Danny that is awesome, and yes its an awesome picture, what a cutie!

LegacyArt -- lovely choice of image, and nice touch on both versions.
Neve -- you're right -- those eyes say it all, and your emphasis really enhances them.
Danny -- your watercolor technique is good, but with this baby, it seems to emphasize the "startled look" in his eyes and mouth. :)

I started with a sharpened/diffused layer with layer masking to reduce a good deal of the effect, leaving it on the blanket, and around the edges of his face. Then I ran Graphic Pen (chose black and his pinkish skin color), added a Layer Mask, and ran a gradient on the mask to show a transition from the drawing effect to the previous image. Used a layer mask to reduce the pencil effect on his face.

Wonderful results people. I'm a sucker for babies and this one is no exception. Thumbs up to all of you. :bigthmb: :bigthmb:

Here is my contribution. If it turns out too yellow on your monitors, please let me know. I added quite a bit of yellow to the final and my monitor is calibrated to the printer so what I get is often different that what ya'll get. Thanks

Janet

... If it turns out too yellow on your monitors, please let me know. Janet

Since you asked ... :glasses:
Janet, the baby's skin shows pinkish/magenta for the most part, but there is a section on the left side (facing) that shows 100% yellow when I look at it in Photoshop. (varies but 18/76/100/9 [CMYK] is typical from what the eyedropper picks up). The shaded area on his chin and on the right side are also high in yellow, but not 100%, and don't LOOK yellow. The brightly lit areas of his face (his "mask", I believe is the term, is mostly majenta according to the numbers. It's an attractive look to my eye, and I would expect a bit of yellow reflection from the yellowish blanket to show up on his face next to the blanky. (quite honestly, if you hadn't brought it up, I'd never have noticed -- I had to bring the image up in PShop to "see" the yellow.) :wavey:

Ran Neat Image on this one first. Then One Step Photo Fix in PSP9 followed by Edge Preserving Smooth and Brushstrokes. Smudged the sharp edges left by brushstrokes, added a texture layer, and framed in PS7.

Nice Catia. I'm glad you ran Neat Image. It is something I should have done when I realized how much grain the face had in it to begin with. Nice job!

Thanks CJ for the comments. I was trying for a yellowish/magenta glow to warm the picture up a bit but couldn't tell if I'd accomplished it without feedback from another eye (not just numbers).

Nice versions all. I'm curious what Janet did to get the "imported from painter" base layer in hers. Please share.

Mine is basically a repeat of my 2nd "Paula in BW" version. But I left out the cutout layer, added a hint of color, and added a texture layer.

Hi Legacy Art,

I created several Selections and placed them on seperate Layers. Using Layer styles I then created a drop shadow for each and used a 1 pixel stroke to help seperate them from the background.

I created another empty Layer and placed a number of question marks on it.

Wow.
My net server was down for just 3 days, and what a wealth of creativity i see here already! Its good to be back!
This is a pencil sketch with a brush made by me. One color-range layer for the towel (which would have otherwise taken forever to do!) Added a sandstone texture.

"Free time at work": Isn't that an oxymoron? :)

Regardless, this is very impressive -- especially using a mouse. Well done.

I normally don't mess with any of the Artistic Filters. But, since that is what is called for here I complied. :)

First, I blurred the image to reduce some of the noise on the original.
Overlayed a blue tint to the entire image.
Used the dry brush effect (for the first time, mind you).
Played with Render->Lighting Effects to bring a bit of emotion into the image.

Enjoyed playing with things I don't normally.

Your version is very nice too. It is amazing all the different styles people come up with. Looks I will have to try this agin in painter now that I know how to use it better.

JlC ... beautiful... love the art history brushes. Love playing with this image... thank you for posting it! :bigthmb:

I started with Lucis art and a number of different layers, but thought the effect was too harsh for the little one, so took it into painter and softened the image with artist chalk and caught all the edges, eyes, eyelashes, nose etc. with pencil....back to ps for final touches. Also took the image more to a sepia tone.

Decided to make the photo high-key and surrounded it with pixel breakdown.

Created a new photo in greyscale and made it a small image . converted to bitmap and then enlarged it again to same size as original. Pasted the bitmap in as a greyscale into an alpha channel. Used it as a selection mask and added the black fill.

Most of you know I'm a little whacked. I mostly use photos for fodder for very weird pix. I wouldn't call what I do abstracts, as they aren't representative of the original photo. I don't know what I'd call the style, if indeed it is a style at all.

But here is what I have done with this photo. I call it "Beach Play." Feel free to dislike it.

Recently downloaded Inkscape vector graphic editor and played around.

Stars, swirls and the partial circle from Inkscape ....bubbles from Jasc Paint Shop Pro 9 picture tube and applied enamel art effect then opened in Photoshop Elements 2 to add gradient,Virtual Photographer, Find Edges then Texture filters.

Could have done it all in Paint Shop Pro most likely but I had fun switching between programs. Now that I have a good idea of what Elements can do I need to explore Paint Shop more it seems to have much greater width and depth than Elements.

Inkscape looks like it will be great fun.
