All this basically is is Gimp's "old photo" script-fu. But since I don't particularly like the way that sepiatones, I did that first in Photoshop with a gradient map.

Hephaestos, I don't know what year that car is, but it seems to me to be an "older model" -- your image could be from an original ad for this fine vehicle!
Nice work!

Started by removing the background. Then took another shot at a kind of watercolory effect based on this action by ErickN:

Another rare result. Thanks for the explanation on the other too. Much appreciated. You're on a roll, keep up the good work! :wavey:

Hi Legacy Art,

Here's my attempt.

I duplicated and blurred the Layer with a Mask to retain the sharpness on the car. Created a Hue/Saturation Layer to Desaturate and lighten the image. Copied the mask from the previous Layer to again block the effect on the car. Created another Color Balance Layer to give a bit af a warm tone on the background again using the mask to protect the car.

Regards

The results so far are great. I can't say I like one more than the other because the work is superb on all of them. There is one thing though...no one has mentioned what kind of car it is; and I'm so curious. :D

Whatever make it is I thoroughly enjoyed Painting it this morning. Thanks for a great photo LA. :wavey:

Painter 8.1
I used Cloners/Wet Oil Cloner 10 all over the vehicle at around 47%
varying only the size of the brush.
Went over all the car again, same brush, lowered opacity 20%
Used the soft Cloner at very low opacity to allow some background
to show through.

I've given this a couple of USM zaps because the brushstrokes would not show through here otherwise especially when having to compress the images.
I doubt this USM would be necessary for printing, haven't yet tried to print too many Painter results yet to know for certain. With a low quality image to work on, the smaller 'details' also aren't evident of course.

My husband (yes, a car-freak  )says its a modern day sports car called Morgan Roadster. Usually built to order because of its retro styling. The last one was made recently by the Malvern based factory in May 2004.

Hephaestos Your style is perfect i adore that picture, well done!

Nice watercolor Danny, i have not learnt watercolors yet but shall give that a preview.

Sidis superb picture, that is lovely well done"

Could you explain what buzz simplified means Sidis?

Hi Con...I like that effect very much, in a few early pictures i liked to septia or black and white the background leaving the colour it has a superb effect!

Oooooh Neve that is very pretty...not the right word but thats very nicely done!!!

Very Nice work Steve...is that oil or watercolor?

(I had an operation on monday and still feel abit unwell i will be back soon)...

Pzazzz.

This is just an experiment with radial blur and gradient maps for the background. The car itself was turned to maroon in photoshop and cloned in Painter before being exported back to Photoshop for inclusion into the wild and crazy background.

Nothing serious, just good old fashioned 60s colors here.

I've been meaning to have a go at this one for ages and I finally got round to it !

Increased resolution to 300 dpi and altered brightness/contrast etc first.

Duplicated background layer 3 times.

On first duplicate applied Little Ink Pot's Thredgeholder filter, set blend mode to luminosity, 100%

On second duplicate applied Little Ink Pot's Chalkaholic filter, set blend mode to soft light, 100%

Set blend mode of third duplicate to soft light 100%.

Copied all layers into new layer (Select All, Copy merged, Paste) and applied brush strokes crosshatch

How did I miss this one earlier? Must be :ditsy: losing it! An Morgan Roadster . . . I'm in love . . . wonder how this would be when it comes to actually driving it? Would I love to find out!

Great renditions, everyone. For mine, I started with some levels adjustments, a little bit of buzz, some Mike Finn PopArtist, adjusted the colors, and then some Impressionist chalk and watercolor, faded, and some VP oil, faded. Then back to Impressionist for Danny's oil preset, and a solid color adjustment layer and a grunge brush to reveal the image. Finally, a little texture . . . and it's done.

I thought about making the roadster red, but this one is so classic I think it looks better in a darker color. Hmmm. maybe a dark burgundy would work . . . will have to find some time to try it. (I have a thing for red roadsters - just look at my avatar!)

The original Morgan was one of my favorite cars ever. They had, I seem to recall, a wood frame (someone feel free to correct me if I'm imagining this). The new version presumably doesn't. It's still a joy to behold.
I did this in CS2 and Painter.

Yes there were made of wood and i think still are (hence the price)

Thanks, Palms - it's gratifying to know the tradition goes on. I did some web searching and it turns out it's the body substructure, not the chassis as some (like me) believe, that's wood (ash, to be exact).

Here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Morgan-unfinished.jpg)'s an old one with the frame showing.

One classy car.
