Not wanting to disappoint a lady "Neve"

Photoshop 7 (aiming for watercolor print)

Neve

Well done GrafixD...just a pity we can't see it more clearly. 300DPI is great for printing but for posting I usually just resize to 72dpi and then work on that version for posting. Someone will come along and explain this better than moi...

"Get your tickets to the Magical Mystery Tour! Right this way!"

Multiple layers...
* Photoshop solarize (+ Levels)
* Photoshop solarize (+ Hue/Saturation + Invert)
* A filter called "PopArt" from www.ThePluginSite.com. It's part of the Plugin Gallaxy collection. Install the demo, delete all but PopArt.

...spliced together with Layer Masks.

Thank you, Neve, for one you knew I'd enjoy. :)

Well done GrafixD. It looks like a real painting.

Danny, now who is "off their meds"? It was worth the journey though wasn't it? Fantastic result.

Good one, Janet! (LOL)

I was experimenting (on a single layer unfortunately = no screenshot) with the Impressionist plugin (again) and may have come up with a new custom style I like. It's kind of like #djroil24, but varies the size of the brush according to some internal algorithm.

I liked the outcome and in spite of no detail wanted to "balance out" the Magical Mystery Tour upload. :)

This is awesome work, Danny. Just how do u achieve this much with the impressionist filter :dizzy: I remember when i first joined RetouchPRO i wanted to only do the kind of impressionist work you did!! Anyway, can hardly wait to try out your new custom style.

Neve

Glad to see you found time to get around to this one Danny....the "off meds" result is cheerful and bold, and your "on meds" post is fantastic. :wavey:

Thanks for a great picture Neve.............

Basically i added ink outline, then a layer of clouds on hard light and changed the curves a bout abit, and merged, simple picture really, since getting a new hard drive all the programs i did have have now gone, so its just photoshop and me.

Fill duplicate layer with gradient map. Motion blur. Add layer mask, bevel and drop shadow layer styles. I've been looking out for that tutorial Manju wrote a long time ago on her technique but couldnt find it.

I didn't do much to this one, but I guess it looks ok as is. Simplicy & restraint are not strong points of mine. Here's a chance to practice them.

BG: Resize, tonal & color correction. Sharpen
A: Copy BG. Select shadows. Impressionist:Geometric-ChaoticChrome. 59%
B: Copy A: Impressionist:Crayons-ShortChoppyStrokes. 62%
Resize back down so JPG quality doesn't drop to nothing.

I don't know how "arty" this is, but it's a fun, fast and easy trick I like to use from time to time.

Duplicate the background
Apply emboss filter
Desaturate this layer and cut down the opacity (35%)

Mal Firth

Used three different actions (Mike Finn's InstaSketch Pro, Ted LaCasio's Art Oils and Lawrence DeBono's Pen Wash) to provide three layers for a new file. I used the InstaSketch layer as the backgound and set the other two layers to Multiply mode. Finally, I merged the three layers and adjusted the Levels and Saturation.

Mal Firth

Same picture desaturated, then used Hue/Sat>Colorize to give it a tint.

First OOB that I've seen that spans two frames. An absolutely brilliant idea! :bigthmb:

Hey, Mal: I especially like #1. Nice combination of actions to get the final result.

- - - - - -

Hephaestos: There are many degrees of artiness. "A little arty" is one of them and works just fine on this one. :)

- - - - - -

cardmnal: Reading your filters recipe and how you combined the layers reaffirmed why I like seeing "HOW" people get their results. Never in a zillion years would I have thought of that. Well done.

- - - - - -

Mark: Ditto what Judy said. Supurb results.

Here's one coming out of the past.

duplicated image
old photo action
finding edges (I think)
added some masking
........not sure what else. I lost track on what I did.

I just love filters that deform the original as a whole-not just bits and pieces of it. This is buzzed to 50 and VPgothic with a lot of playing around with contrast/brightness.

I had to try it too. I used two layers one impressionist, and one smart blur. I used an edge from photofiltre.

One more using Painter and Photoshop CS2. In Photoshop I used some of my Trimoon WC presets for some overlays.

Thanks palms. Nice painting effect pavel. How do you like Painter X?
Cathy :wavey:

Cathy, thank you. I' have a demo version. It doesn't seem that Painter X is that much different from IX. Three new types of brushes added: real bristle, smart stroke and art pen. For most of the brushes in these groups I can usually find a similar brush in the "older" brush series available in Painter IX. Usually I do not read manuals and go by "trial and error", so I suppose there could be something I missed.

Nice mood piece Craig, and I like your paint technique Steve.

Pavel, I am also using the demo and I really like the way the brushes are working in this version, and I love the new underpainting and auto-painting features. I don't know yet if I will upgrade though.

I didn't get to underpainting yet, I think Painter IX has autopainting, as far as I can tell it works in similarly in both versions.

palms, i like the 2nd one you posted there better. simple look, nice contrast.

and cathy, i like your 2nd one (post #33) best also. nice, sort of watercolor look.

pavel, you guys are doing some nice stuff in painter.

Danny,
You can put that experiment into full production IMHO

Did you find some relatively hidden Impressionist setting that varied the size of the paint strokes?

Excellent jobs, everyone. Especially like yours Craig. Looks like the "Long Black Train" (Great Josh Turner Song).

There's a long black train comin' down the line,
Feeding off the souls that are lost and cryin'.
Rails of sin, only evil remains.
Watch out, brother, for that long black train.
Look to the heaven's, you can look to the sky.
You can find redemption staring back into your eyes.
There is protection and there's peace the same:
Burnin' your ticket for that long black train.

'Cause there's victory in the Lord, I say.
Victory in the Lord.
Cling to the Father and his Holy name,
And don't go ridin' on that long black train.

There's an engineer on that long black train,
Makin' you wonder if the ride is worth the pain.
He's just a-waitin' on your heart to say:
"Let me ride on that long black train."

But you know there's victory in the Lord, I say.
Victory in the Lord.
Cling to the Father and his Holy name,
And don't go ridin' on that long black train.

Well, I can hear the whistle from a mile away.
It sounds so good but I must stay away.
That train is a beauty makin' everybody stare,
But its only destination is the middle of nowhere.

But you know there's victory in the Lord, I say.
Victory in the Lord.
Cling to the Father and his Holy name,
And don't go ridin' on that long black train.

I said cling to the Father and his Holy name,
And don't go ridin' on that long black train.

Yeah, watch out brother for that long black train.
That devil's drivin' that long black train.

Several different History Brushes, a goldish tone color overlay with a lighting effect. Was going for a train coming out of the morning mist look.

thank you, dee dee :)

not familiar with that song, but i sort of like it already. btw, i'm the conductor on that one ;)

like janet, i like yours too. i'd love to see just a touch more black on the engine front for contrasting to the mist. i think it would show off the mist and the effect more.
