Cool!

I had piece #1. I thought perhaps it was a picture of flowers, but there wasn't a lot to work with in my particular piece. I chose to make my piece look good in and of itself rather than try to keep it "true" to the image it was part of. Like BK, I like my larger version better. Unfortunately, the laptop I did it on is packed and ready to head to the airport, so I won't be able to post it (and what I did to achieve the effect) until tomorrow.

Here is a closeup of Blacknight's section so you can see the great texture he created...

I had number 8 and had an idea of what it was. I did mine at Jill's house along with her (but we did not look at each others until it was completed). I had a great time. I used glowing edge and various other filters to change the colors and bring out the edges.
After seeing Blacknights close up from the original I have to agree he had a lot of great detail. Loved everyones submission. Can not wait for the next one!

Jeffrey,

I went back to look at my PS file and found that I hadn't actually named my layers like I usually do. So, I'm guessing a bit as to the exact filters I used. But, here's what I remember.

1. Copied the bg layer and ran the Paint Engine Arctic filter. I moved the "radiate" slider down to somewhere around .48 (from 1.0) to get the wispy effect.

2. Copied the bg layer again and moved it above the Arctic layer. Ran something like the Wind filter, but I don't think it was that filter - just looked like it. You could use it though - in blast mode. changed the blending mode of this layer to Lighten, opacity 45%.

3. Copied the bg layer again and moved it to the top of the stack. I was worried that the image was getting a little too abstract, so ran the Glowing Edges filter and set the blending mode to Lighten, opacity 41%.

4. Merged all of the layers to a new layer.

5. Copied Glowing Edges layer to a new image. Changed the mode to grayscale. Adjusted levels to increase contrast. Saved as PSD file to use as texture.

6. Same as #5 with the Wind layer.

7. Applied the glowing edges texture at 100% size to the merged layer. Then applied the wind texture the same way. Reduced the opacity of the merged layer (with two textures) to 70%.

Hope this helps some. If you have any other questions, I'd be happy to try to answer them, but I have to admit - I did this late at night while distracted with a bunch of other concerns, so I might not remember everything exactly.

Jeanie

Great use of the wind filter, the feather effect it has given to the edges are very much in keeping with the subject matter (You will know what I mean if you have ever seen a close up of a moth - these guys are seriously hairy ) This is even more fantastic seeing as you didn't know what the image was.... your psycic vibes must have been working the the background

The texture on blacknights image is really good along with the colour saturation, nice one

Looking forward to the next round
Clare
