Why you need a tripod

Posted 11-27-2007 at 08:35 AM by Frank Lopes
One tool that I mentioned you didn't have to have, even still I keep repeating that I couldn't live without it, is a tripod.

Tripods make your pano shooting experience much, much easier than if shooting by hand.

All the reasons why one would use a tripod to shoot any photo, apply to pano shooting and more.

So why do you want to use it?

Let me quote two very famous photographers instead:

Here is a different pano sequence

Posted 11-26-2007 at 05:19 AM by Frank Lopes
Some of you were looking for a different sequence to experiment with.

These 5 photos, except for having been resized to 50%, are as they came from the camera. They are however still large files: aprox 650kb+

They were shot this summer during a very rainy afternoon.

There are several things wrong with them:

Old panoramic photos

Posted 11-25-2007 at 07:42 AM by Frank Lopes
Pano shooting is as old is photography, and while searching for examples of old panorama photographs I came across bionikmedia.com

They specialize in old black and white photos, vintage posters and panoramic photographs.

These are just some of the panos that caught my eye.

Interesting enough, their best pano phots are under the section titled: Bathing Beauties.

When I first started this blog, I mentioned a few items that I felt were absolutely essential.

I elected to omit a tripod even still I do feel as you gain more and more experience, you will feel the tripod to be essential, just as I do.

One of the important details while shooting panoramas is how level the camera is.

By having the camera level, you avoid having the software not only having to deal with the
color and luminosity gradients (and attempting...

Panorama software options

Posted 11-19-2007 at 07:27 PM by Frank Lopes
I've tried almost a dozen software packages that create panoramas. Most of the time, I found them to be clunky to use, expensive to purchase and most times both.

I came across Panorama Composer by accident and I'm very impressed with its simplicity, price and speed.

If you use Photoshop CS3, you already have a great tool in Photomerge.

If you have Photoshop CS2, and this is your first time creating panoramas, don't waste your time with it. It does not...
