Photography technicalities

Since the central topic of this blog is the panorama creation process and not the technicalities of how to shoot photographs, I avoid many details on purpose.

For those interested in those details, and with time if like me you get addicted to this form of photography, (you will, believe me...), here is a collection of links that explain much better than I ever could those details.

How to shoot the individual images

When it comes down to it, it is a very simple process: you shoot a series of slightly overlapping images that later get merged into one large photo.

This is how I do it when shooting a classic horizontal panoramic view.

From the left to the right while keeping the camera as level as I can, I shoot the first image, slightly pivot on my right foot and shoot the next photo while overlapping the subject that was captured by the first image by about 30%.

The setting was an old lumber mill in the western part of Massachusetts, fall of 2007.

It was originally shot as a series of 9 individual shots.

I'll post them in case anyone is interested in playing with them.
