I know many people will say offering freebie jobs is a bad thing to do, but it has worked out very well for me. I have now done freebie work for a few local schools, and my time invested in doing it has paid off. As we all know, marketing your business can be very expensive, so investing your time (rather than cash), can sometimes work out.
In my case I did a VERY basic photo shoot for a school prom (my first ever), and a retouch/merge job for another schools 2008 calendar recently. These...

Filter Forge is a pretty amazing program. It makes filters for Photoshop and other programs that can use the .8bf plug-in types.

The biggest draw of this program is that you don't have to know how to code. It's visual and comes in two parts, the Graphical User Interface (or GUI) Click image for larger version

IMG tags

Posted 11-09-2007 at 02:27 PM by Doug Nelson (Janitor's Closet)

To Blog or not to Blog

Posted 11-09-2007 at 02:05 PM by cricket1961 (Chris Tarantino's Blog)

Even though I have written some books and would love to write some more, I am not in love with typing At all. Which is why I have never had a web page up over the many years. Certainly not through lack of thinking about it. Kind of the way I write my books.
I do have a program that would let me dictate to the computer as I talked. Which in theory is ultra cool until corrections need to be made, which always seem to take longer than it would have to just type the thing in the first place....

The gold standard for photo blogs

Posted 11-09-2007 at 11:46 AM by Doug Nelson (Janitor's Closet)

One of my favorite blogs to read is The Online Photographer. Mike Johnston used to be the editor for what is still my favorite photo magazine, Photo Techniques.

I don't agree with everything he says, but he writes thoughtfully and well, and has some of the best commenters around. It isn't a rehash of links and press releases, each post is a mini magazine article.

Now if someone would just start something similar here for retouching, and another for photo restoration,...
