Working abroad

So...
I used to visit this site a lot, but i never write anything. Well, time to change that. I'm looking forward to travel to the U.S. by the end of november-2008 and i wish i could find a job as retoucher but i just don't know how to get in touch with the companies before i get there.

I know that there's a loooot of quality retouchers here...
So i wanna ask, does my retouchings sucks???
Do i have a chance to get a job as retoucher? and if i do... does anyone know how can i get contact with companies???
This is my gallery: http://alex-sj.deviantart.com/gallery/

i read a lot of stuff on this forum, search at some craiglist but i never got any answer =/

Anyway, i would apprecite any comment about =)

Re: Working abroad

hi,
Well I had a look at your deviant and I wouldīnt say it sucks at all.
I canīt give a clue about the market of retouchers because Iīm just looking around trying to find out what is it about.
Iīm also in the search for job opportunities but through the web.
You can have a look at my job here or at my deviant www.ximeworks.deviantart.com or at www.talikimelman.com which the page of the photographer I work with. (I also appreciate your comments)

And donīt worry about the quality of your work, which is pretty fine, just about the ways of getting paid for it.

Xime

(Where are you from?)

Re: Working abroad

hi Alex,

I entered the deviant you link because I got confused about your question but now i realized what you where referring to. In the retoucher space at deviantart are posted the works done by tali kimelman photo studio where tali and me work together retouching her pictures. From the examples posted there, there are some in which I participated and other in which I didnīt but I did worked in most of them, in some cases with more personall input than in others.

Thatīs why I posted the dolls series in my own personal deviant that I quoted before www.ximeworks.deviantart.com where Iīll be posting my personal work.

I didnīt mean to be rude or anytihng, (I might be having troubles with languages) What I meant is, as well as in my case, the problem is not the quality of our job but to get the clients. isnīt it?

by the way we could be writing portugues or spanish, se voce quiser!

Ximena

Re: Working abroad

well, for me u were not rude at all, u were very nice actually

good to know that i can talk in portuguese with u, i'll definitely do that, even thought is kind of good to write in english, i need to practice and if i start writing things in portuguese here most part of the forum will not understand, just a few

anyway, i enter on the website, very nice stuff there

that doll style is so unique that i knew that i saw on other gallery, that's why i ask u, but now it's clear for me ^^ congrats for that job, it's really cool

yes, my problem is totally about how to get clients or photographers... any tips???

=**
