Nice one Kurt!

Really nice job mate. I think you deserve another prize for remembering everything you did! I too would really appreciate it if you'd give us a bit of a review on fluid mask as it looks on the face of it to be a pretty awsome product! Enjoy.

I think another prize is a great idea!

Fluid Mask does look pretty cool. I'm anxious to try it out. I'll have to wait a couple of weeks though...the Windows version is still a week or two away from being released. I'll be sure to post a review.

Congrats Kurt an excellent job done.
The typing out of your methods probably took just as long to do as the job (if your typing skills are like mine).

Many thanks to all that voted for me, I really enjoyed doing this one, and really enjoyed seeing my name appear in the votes (a first for me but not a last I hope).

Thumbs down Fluid Mask

I hope Fluid Mask for Windows comes out soon. I look forward to Kurt's opinion of it.

By the way, the latest review of it that I have seen says: (quote)

Masking plugin for Adobe Photoshop
By Dave Nagel

Summary: Vertus Fluid Mask is a plugin for Adobe Photoshop that facilitates the masking process. It offers a number of innovative tools for getting complex masking jobs done quickly and with a high degree of precision. This is, simply, the most impressive image masking software I've used.

Publisher: Vertus (
Platform: Mac OS X (Windows version coming soon)
Price: $249
Users: Graphic design professionals
Recommendation: Strong Buy

Vertus Fluid Mask is a relatively recent addition to the plethora of masking tools on the market. But since I began using it last month, I haven't used any other masking software. What this Adobe Photoshop plugin can do for extracting an image in just a few clicks is nothing short of incredible, but it also has the depth to handle the most complex masking situations.

As for ease of use, well, I can't praise this software enough. Everything is so well organized and intuitive that, if you've ever used any kind of masking software in the past, you can just dive right in creating masks without ever cracking the manual. In fact, the only reason I ever opened the manual for this software was just to make sure I hadn't missed any features before I wrote this review. It's really just that easy to use. If you've never used any kind of masking software, it may take a little getting used to, but not much. The visual cues (red for delete, green for keep) are fairly obvious; the tools are all in a familiar tool palette configuration; and any features you can't immediately identify through the main portion of the interface you can access via the complete menu system.

The Bottom Line
So, in summary, Fluid Mask is powerful, innovative and easy to use. I have not used another masking tool that can do everything Fluid Mask can do with this level of ease and with this kind of precision--and I've used pretty much all of them. It's an absolute dream. And the price is pretty reasonable as well for this type of software. (If you need more convincing, a trial version is available, along with documentation and sample images, at Vertus' Web site.) I give Fluid Mask an unreserved Strong Buy recommendation.

So it sounds it good.

... sorry Kurt I forget to add, congratulations on your winning entry, the quality of the competition speaks for itself. well done everybody and especially those with the more innovative entries.

Welcome to RP Illapu!!!

Thanks for posting the review - and for the congratulations. My mouth is watering in anticipation...

And again (it can't be said enough) many thanks to T and Doug for their efforts - I can imagine how difficult it must be to find quality prize donations such as this every month, but you always come through.

Hi Kurt and please excuse the delayed congrats !!

I was sure had mentioned that from the moment I saw your "baby" I considered it a winner, so was not surprised at the results.
Great job too in your breakdown of the work done on the image. If you got that result without the aid of the fluid mask you get for first place I can't even start to imagine what you will produce with it

I also want to congratulate all the rest of the finalists for a marvelous job.

Regards and happy holidays to all !! Martha -
