Good !! Nice surprise byRo, I am doubly glad, one that T-Paul is taking a well deserved vacation and that the "acting" mod for this month's contest will be you.

Happy New Year !! to you and the rest of the members that will start showing up soon I am sure. Hope you all had a good evening and without too much "fumes" to dissipate.

See you later !

Regards - Martha

P.S. I am starting my first steps in Illustrator, will it be allowed to use it ? (if I manage to understand it that is )

Is the 800 px wide and exactly 600 px high correct or should it be the other way round?

marthig, Hapy New Year to you and all members . Only the final image is important. You can use any tools you wish.

Ian, yes that is 800px wide, that is part of the "problem". Think of the image as being for the Web, not for print.

I must publicly apologize to Cassidy (I have done so in private) for clearing up an interpretation of the rules after the entry.

Althoug the wording "Glamour Retouch Showpiece" can be thought of as calling for a before/after shot, the idea is that the entry should be only the "after". OK?

You say it's an easy challenge this time, but I don't think it is. The fixed size rule that will change the way the image looks, and fact that it is a good starting image, means it will make people look hard at what to change, crop and retouch.
The RetouchPro name in the image could also be something that can be artistically added, rather than just text stamped. So it's adding even more to the challenge. But I do undrstand that this may just be to protect the images in the long run.
Interesting contest, and one that has made me want to come back to entering the contests.

I like it

Actually I said it may seem easy (I know it ain't).

Fully agreed - the wording is another chance to use your imagination. (No problem with protection.)

Glad to see your back with us. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

looks like another great contest and I have a feeling that this may be one that is harder to judge than the last.

Wish I had seen the clarification a few hours ago on the before/after aspect I could have saved myself a few hours, lol
Oh well, at least I had the hard technical part done!

Happy new year to all.

Yuk, don't know what happened to the skin on my entry when saving and uploading, but it sure has gone flat and fuzzy . Will have to sort that out later

Ro and T_Paul,

here's a thought... we've had a bit of controversy on rules in the past. thankfully, no one died over it that i know of. but something about reading these posts on this new contest got me thinking. what if the rules for the new contest were posted a MONTH ahead of time. no image, just the rules. any clarifications of said rules could be hashed out AHEAD of time and not when someone has already put in time on working on the actual image. this might save some headaches and frustrations. the actual image to be worked on would only be posted at the start of the contest, but the rules would be up a month ahead of that.

just a thought.

Craig, that would be a good idea. T_Paul has already put forward an idea for Feb06, maybe it will be possible to antecipate something.
However, I do feel that without the images the doubts may not arise as they do when the folks start working.

PS. This month wasn't possible, I got permission for the image and the OK from Doug at the very last minute.

I understand that the intention isn't for a strict before/after, but are there any objections to using the before as part of the graphic, while keeping the new glamour shot as the main element? As we are including text I'm looking at this as graphic composition, rather than just a glamour shot. Does this seem reasonable?

Caitlin, as long as the glamour version is the main element, I wouldn't rule it out.

Yes indeed, the text is part of the challenge.

Just in case somebody forgets.......
Please remember that the only image size permitted is 800px wide, 600px high.

lkroll and OnAir, you need to change the layout of your images in order to fit within the 800 pixels Wide X 600 pixels High fixed size set out in the rules. Otherwise they will not be entered in the final line-up for voting.

Couldn't agree more Doug. In view that she is so pretty, can't understand why they had to cover her face with all those loose strands
But then if they had send her back to the salon we wouldn't have this contest !

You did a good job in tidying her up though I like it, as well as the font for the RP legend. Great submissions so far !

Regards - Martha

Thanks Martha, I like yours too - nicely done. I'm guessing our model was photographed after the dance.

Doug and Marthig --

I agree LOL!!!

I've never seen so much hair in my life.

You've both done a great job on your high glamour makeovers.

This contest was a puzzle for me. Is it a retouch or an advertisement for RetouchPRO, or both?

Lorraine

Ro,

Thanks for stepping in for T. This contest is extremely hard and very satisfying. I've already learned so much from participating.

Hi Lorraine thanks for your nice comment.
I was just admiring your submission, I like it a lot, nice idea about the light too!
I think the mentioning of RetouchPRO is just a sort of "hurdle" our dear byRo added as well as the size being exactly 800 x 600

You know how these mod types are, always bossing you around and exercising authority --specially byRo

Just in case someone misinterprets; the above is just a JOKE and nothing could be further from byRo's always nice and helpful attitude.

Regards - Martha

Yo Bro Ro...

I just downloaded my first copy of photo-6.. I needed to repair my desktop wallpaper.. and suddenly was pulled into a new art-form, like a northern pike takes a minnow... Then I went a searching for the best photo retouch forum.. and there you were...

At my first attempt at retouching a nude, I got a little carried away with the photo-tools, then clicked negative, and came up with a piece of magic, that I just can't stop looking at... All those blues and purple fires... my favorite colors...

Anyway.. I'm wondering.. Are you considering contests for "distortion art"..?

Lorraine, first, congratulations on you entry. Very nicely done!

A retouch yes, an advert no.

Besides a glamour retouch, I wanted to put some more spice into it.
T Paul had passed me some guidelines that Doug had set out, and I liked the idea of a "showpiece" and, seeing as how this is a Web site and not a magazine, I then fixed the size as if it were a (small) web-page.

I knew that a landscape layout would require a bit of imagination to fill up the space. So I figured that specifying a word or two would be a good idea.
There were some other words but Doug has to watch his (our) back on copyright issues so I stuck with just "RetouchPRO".

Marthig!!! Up to your bedroom, now! No supper for you, young lady! (just too, OK?)

Cosmic, welcome to RetouchPRO Have a good look around the art forums. I'm not sure how much will translate to Photo(shop?) 6 but you can be certain you'll find a lot of interesting ideas.
Art competitions, and expecially abstract art, are a lot more difficult to judge, but if you look around the Challenges section there's a lot going on there.
And as Danny says, the most important part is to have fun!

Ro and Marthig --

Ro, thanks for the clarification and your kind comments. I asked the question because, as I was trying to make up the background composite for my entry, it became more of a challenge than the retouch.

Marthig, Thanks for your clarification as well.

PS -- I'm sure that everyone realizes that you were joking. I'll buy lunch today

Lorraine
